I know a lot of you really like this game. I'm trying, even though it has a strong focus on the casual gamer and the PvP aspect, while I'm a more rabid gamer and prefer PvE content. That's not really what's getting to me though... it's the damn kids. I log in and am met with people spamming, usually with ridiculous names like Bigboobz which leave no question as to their age and gender, almost always in all caps. I don't care what it's about; BGs, A_pickup_raid_01, or their latest, leetest auction, but seeing the same thing spammed 3-4 times or more in succession in all caps just grates on my nerves. Seeing these little smacktards be the biggest asses they can possibly be on a daily basis because there's no fear of repurcussion does as well. I'd pay good money to see them act that way in public. Because the average person would kick their ass.

How do you people deal with it? And if you feel comfortable answering, how old are you? I'm wondering if I've just become too intolerant, or if others 25 & older are getting fed up with it as well, while those in college or younger don't mind as much. Yes, I know... "join a guild". I have, but it doesn't filter out the channels, /yell, /emote or /say. Or those godawful forums...

i haven't noticed an abundance of kids, but i think i've just been lucky to avoid it. my suggestion is to reroll horde or try a normal server. Bronzebeard(Normal) has a guild with a bunch of ATOT members, not sure how recruiting works anymore.

Good point about horde; I agree that I've found that side to be more mature. I've been enjoying my rogue lately though (fun, fun class) and I happened to roll him on the alliance side. While the horde may be more mature, they're also far fewer, at least on my server. Look for a group past midnight for me (10pm server time) on horde and you may well see a tumbleweed roll past. I'm already on a Normal server (there are no PvE servers), though by and large, most players care only about Battlegrounds.

Well, I'm 25 years old, I'd say that definitely puts me in the older part of the age spectrum in WoW.
That said, I'm in a good guild, one of our recruitment requirements is that applicants must be 18 or older, though we have made a few exceptions for people who are known to behave well, just as we've kicked older people who have been asshats.
I've more or less stopped doing pickup groups with my main, and with my alt I've simply gotten a reasonably extensive friends list, so at worst we'll have to take along one or two randoms.

That said, I've been impressed lately while playing my alt, I've ran into a lot of really nice randoms, for some reason they seem far more abundant than they did while I was lvling my main, no idea why
Also, as I've said many times, based on both my own experience as well as what others say, generally people on the Horde side seem to be far more mature, more than likely due to the artificial love many kids seem to have for female night elves and humans.
Not to say Horde doesn't have it's fair share as well, just not as many.

But in the end, a good guild is the key.

I hear you, about all of this and is a huge turn off to the game. However, I do have some good friends in the game that do make it enjoyable. I have not played in a while though... Once I heard that the cap is being raise to 70 I decided that MC and ZG runs were pointless and a waste of time. So I retired from the game... I might get around to cancelling it. But for now I am just taking a break and getting back into shape.

WoW's can be so addicting that people forget there are many things that could be taking that time. For instance, @ 18 years old I was rock solid weight lifter. 205 lbs., 5'10" and around 9% body fat. Now, after MMO's entered my life, 6 years later I am 235 lbs. and lost about 20 pounds of muscle. :-(

My point? Two fold - 1) Never stop working out! You will regret it! 2) MMO's can contribute to some major lazyness via addiction.

So now instead of playing WoW each night for 5 hours, I hit the gymn hard for two hours and then watch some Walker: Texas Ranger re-runs on TV... I started to be more social again (not that I ever was not) and am going bowling tonight with some friends we haven't seen in months!

WoW's average maturity level = 13... That number was raised by the mature crowd... But unfortunately 90% of the server is 10-12 year olds without a clue, no respect and think they are untouchable.

Eh, I tend to ignore the little kids or laugh at it. It's a game, you can't take it too seriously.

But I'm only 20 (24 days til I'm 21).

I'd say, if you don't like the game, then don't play it.

I quit after a couple of breaks. Simply couldn't take the problem you're describing and refused to pay for it anymore. The game is a good one, but not so good that it can still be fun (for me and many others) with the horrid and immersion-breaking behavior of the vast number of kiddxorz.

If you do quit because of this, tell them why why (they'll ask). After thousands have done so, they'll finally get it. Blizzard seems to respond to issues slowly, but they do respond. In the future, dunno who, dunno how far off, some MMO company will have a "No idjits" server option. Lightly moderated, warn then boot the most spastic to the regular servers. This company will capture a lot of the fed up and fleeing market and build up a lot of customer loyalty.

Anyhow, good luck.

/quit.

Just lost total interest in it after taking a break for about 2 weeks. Tried to get back in but just can't.

Oh well :)

I turned off names over characters. I exited the general chat channels. And I only talk to guildees. Now I know this sounds pretty odd at first, but do it for 1 week and it will quickly become the norm. You'd be surprised how fast you learn to identify people by their current gear/class/race/facial differences.

and you'll be at peace. Once you leave the newb areas, you see a lot less of that kind of stuff. I personally just joined a RP server, and the folks there are much better. I dont RP much, but you may find me put on my gorilla custom once in a while.

I keep general and trade on for entertainment value only. If I got really sick of them, I'd leave them, as the important communication is either happening in /guild or one of a few custom channels I join.

A decent guild of people with similar goals and interests to your own is the most important factor. Our guild is by and large PvE. There are some people interested in PvP, but nobody very seriously into it like for ladder purposes or anything. For exemple, I don't think we have a warrior over level 40 who isn't protection spec.

If your focus is on co-operative play in PvE, I'd be damn sure that's what my guild was into. Without a guild of like-minded people, I can see how the game would cause a loss of interest. Find the right guild and leave general and trade and you don't have to worry about the kiddies at all anymore.

As for age, I'm over 30, as is much of our guild. We have members over 50, couples, etc...

Join a decent guild and talk in that chat if you really want to ask questions or share something.

The wife and I are 27 & 28, respectively. We're on a PvE server. We're in a guild of mostly 20-something couples, with a few younger players (high school age) and a few older ones. My wife's a warlock, so she has to deal with the "can u plz summon me plz?" requests, whereas nobody ask the hunter for anything, because we can't give you sh1t. :p

I just recently joined WoW (3 days ago). I'm a level 17 Warrior... anyways, after reading all these threads about how immature WoW players were, I was pleasantly surprised when I joined the game. I didn't notice any extreme "zomgzlolol i just pwned VC!!1111"-type comments, and most people I encountered were more mature than I expected. I'm on a Normal PvP server (Shattered Hand).

Oh, and I'm 24.

Oh come on! You know it's way more important and cool to get that elite sword of bloody doom and impress all the 13 yr olds playing than it is to be in shape and impressing those 20 yr old chicks.

MMO's 4 life.

I have had people in the twelve year old range telling me they quit playing Alliance because the majority of the players were too immature to deal with. I tried Alliance for all of five minutes before abandoning them to try Horde. Found a great Guild that consists of people that just like to play the game and help the other members out. :)

I was afraid to try the game after reading the horror stories on here, but really, they mostly seem to be limited to the Alliance side, at least on my server.
