Seeing all fitness threads here I decided to make my very own.

Back in AZ I usually did around 25 - 35 miles/week on the mountainbike just for fun and to gain some endurance. I lived there for 2.5 years and I went from being dead after 4 miles on the bike to easily being able to do 15 to 17 miles every time. Not much weight loss but I went from 277lbs to around 265lbs by doing this.

Now after moving to VA with the colder winters I don't ride my MTB as much but I've able to get out on some really nice 30 mile rides on teh road bike. VA > AZ in terms of road biking. Anyhow, I've been slacking off and need to keep up the small gains I made so I joined the gym a couple of weeks ago and now getting in the groove.
I've been hovering around 265 lbs for the last 6 months and my goal is to loose some weight, let's say 20 lbs.

My simple routine is basically this:

I got to the gym 3 times a week (Mon, Wed, Fri) and do 50 mins of cardio on the bike at a heart rate of 150 - 155. Assuming my max rate is 220 - 'age' = 185. I know I can hit 205, I did it once and will not do it again.

After that I do light weight training concentrating on upper body for ~30 mins. I have no goal of gaining lots of muscle, just becoming a bit stronger and do some upperbody exercise. I sit at a desk 7 days/week at work so the arms 'ain't getting nothing'.
I don't drink much soda, <4/week, but usually have a beer for dinner most days of the week. No super un-healty food but the occational pizza.

Starting today I weigh in at 267 lbs in T-shirt + shorts + shoes. Let's see how this goes.
:)

edit + updates:

Update 1: 265lbs
Update 2: 262lbs, no quick results here.
Update 3: 262lbs (March 23)

Atta boy :) Keep up the good work and keep us posted about the results.

I think I'm one of the few people here trying to gain weight. ;) I'm still under 130 pounds, would like to be 135.

Thanks. My target weight should be around 210 lbs. That was my weight 10 years ago but loosing 55 lbs is a bit high to set as a goal so I settle for 20 lbs to start with.

Hey, good for you! I started running on August 20, 2002 when I weighed myself and was astonished that I had reached 234lbs. (I'm 6' flat) Sooo, I started to go running and such on a regular basis. When I first started, I couldn't make it more than 1/4th the way around a 1/4 mile track. Now I can run for a few hours and hope to run a marathon someday when I'm out of college.

I now weigh 172lbs and feel great! I eat and drink whatever I want and however much I want and I also exercise MWF for 1 hour during the school days and run almost every night during the summer months.

If I can do it, you can too man! Good luck!

No drastic changes.

Ehhh, my weight loss started off slow, too. But I managed to lose 55lbs in the past year. Slow and steady wins.

EDIT: I'm almost to the point where I will finally stop with my current diet and start eating a lot more. But with the point of add muscle mass rather than fat.

The point is to keep at it. Give it at least two months. Even better, do it for a year, and it is quite feasible to drop 50lbs without being a Nazi about it.
