YAWLT: Deadlifts - how do you preserve your shins?

I need a good tip from someone who regularly does deadlifts. Is there anything you can do to prevent the front of your shins from becoming raw hamburger? (i.e. is there anything you can do to protect yourself from being scraped by the Olympic bar?)

I've worn pants when doing deadlifts, but they don't seem to help. I'm thinking there might be a tape or something that I could put on my legs. Soccer shin protectors, perhaps?

I know some guys that use shin protectors, but otherwise you just suck it up and deal with it.

You could also try pulling sumo style, but that is really if you want to put less stress on you back.

What type of shin protectors? Also, I wonder if an oil or lotion might help - anything to make the bar slide off my shins instead of biting into them.

No don't use oil, as soon as it gets on the hand grip part of the bar there goes your grip.
Baby powder might help a bit, but you can use plastic (you don't want any fabric frcition) soccer shin protectors.
