i put my system in a new case...when everything was hooked up, i turned it on, and black screen; tried resetting bios, taking out the battery, and no luck.

The board is an Abit NF7-S v.2.0

i noticed next to the cpu socket, there was some shiny tape-like stuff....any idea what it is? My screwdriver slipped and made a negligible scratch; i'm hoping thats not the problem.

pic of the board

i'm talking about the shiny stuff around the socket.

The shiny stuff is nitroglycerine tape. Wait, no it's not, it's to prevent damage from the clip or screwdriver hitting the mobo, I remember now 😀

What power supply is running the show, or is it the same one as before? Check your I/O shield to ensure the springy things didn't get into the network or USB ports, ensure that your 4-pin ATX12V cable is plugged in, and make sure your heatsink's oriented so the stepped end is matched to the raised, solid-plastic end of the CPU socket.

same PSU as i was running in the other case. I took the mobo out without taking the HS/F off, so it's fine; looks like there's no I/O interference

both ATX and the 4 pin yellow one are connected

I have a long list of stuff to check if you click the top link here, might go down and see if anything jumps out at you. Random sampler:

1) make sure the 115V/230V slider on your PSU didn't get nudged

2) take the board out of the case and confirm that there aren't any standoffs in places where the mobo doesn't have a hole.

hm, i'll check the standoffs tommorrow...perhaps there may be one where there isn't a hole.

Would that destroy the mobo forever if that was the case?
