I am 5'11" and currently 225lbs. I played soccer and lacrosse in highschool and when I was at my top physical peek, 2 miles in 11 min, I weighed around 185. That was when I was in the best shape ever. I am currently 3 years out of highschool and have since gained weight. I was told that a healthy weight for my height was around 175lbs from a few sources. I currently have a body fat % of ~20%. I have never weighed that little even when I was running 5+ miles 5 days a week and eating healthy. I really want to get back into shape but I dont ever see myself getting to 175lbs at all. Any ideas on what could be up with my weight?

Those weights assume little muscle mass, and as such if you are actually in shape you will be above them. IMO you can tell if you are out of shape. If you are do something about it, but don't rely on stupid numbers given by doctors who have never seen you in person.

My uncle has a daughter who is 6 years old and a rail. She is very strong (she can do sit-ups suspended from her fathers neck by her ankles) as she has done gymnastics since she was 3 (her choice not her parents) and the doctor they took her to told them that by law he had to tell them to put her on a diet because she was obese based on weight, but told them right afterward, "Good job on keeping her this healthy". Stuff like that is stupid. If you have extra muscle then the weights they give are way off.

ya it just kind of confused me. I have been told by doctors that I needed to lose 20 lbs when I could do 80 pushups w/o stopping and run 5 miles. I didnt know if I actually did need to lose that. Everyone is always suprised by my weight though. I get alot of "you CANT weigh that!"

Well the solid bone that is your skull probably weighs a lot.

If you're 5"11, the BMI tables say you should be no more than 179, before you're considered overweight. I wouldn't worry about 175-185. I'm 6'0", and a bigger guy, and in my best shape (senior year of high school) I weighed 165. When I hit 185, I could see the difference. Now, at 32, I'd love to be 185 again. Even if it is considered "overweight".

Rather than using weight alone as a measurement, a combination of weight and bodyfat % would be a better measurement of a healthy size.
