YAVT: So why is Best Buy selling a.............

Vonage router for $59.99 (With rebate $59.99) when you can just get it from Vonage sent to you for free without the hassle of a rebate?

Currently I am paying $45-$50 a month for my landline that I only use maybe 2 hours a month TOPS, We use are cells for long distance and tolls. So I was thinking of getting the 500 minute plan for $14.99 after taxes it will be about $17 not bad. That would save me over $30 a month.

So I read all the threads that came up with Vonage as the search string. So now I need new advice. Should I get the one from Best Buy or is the one they send you good enough?

I had heard of Vonage but never really gave it much thought until the salesman swore on his mother how great it is. I had gone there to buy the:

Netgear 802.11 Super G 108Mbps Wireless 4 port Router model #WGT624 on sale for $89.99 with a $40 rebate. Plus I had a Gift Card someone gave me for $40 so it'll end up costing me about $10+ tax. And I'll get that back my first month from Comcast because They've been raping me for $9.95 a month for multiple IP's, now with a router I won't need their stinking multiple IP's.

Ok so who's going to refer me? so we both can get a free month? is that even still going on?

I just sent a referral e-mail to your Anandtech listed E-mail addy so you should get a free month.
Good luck on Vonage. We've had it for over 2 years now and there were some problems at first but it's been acceptable so far.
The ability to receive my voicemail via e-mail or on the web is pretty nice.

Edit: Which router are they sending with it? When we got ours the router was extra and I already had one anyhow.

Edit2: Found out they send you a Linksys RT31P2 which is apparently a combination of the VOIP phone adapter and router in one box.
Linksys is usually good stuff but this box doesn't have wireless on it. If you want to add wireless you'd need a wireless access point or a second router with wireless on it.

Thanks for the Referal. So wait they will send me a router not just an adapter? So what do you think should I take back the NETGEAR ROUTER and get my money back? I wasn't going to be using the wireless part anyway I just got it just in case because it was cheaper than the non wireless router. But what happens if I cancel Vonage how long before the router becomes mine? or is it always theirs?

You know I just checked the adapter for vonage they are selling at Best Buy is not even a router it has no switch ports just 2 phone plugs. SO WHY the HELL would someone want that when they can get a FREE Router (Linksys RT31P2) from Vonage?

I called customer service and the Broadband router with phone is indeed free.
However the device is always theirs. If you cancel in 30 days or 3 years you have to send the router back to them.

Here are the specs on the Router/VOIP adapter combo:

Can 1 person send me a referral and then post with a reply so no one else sends me one 🙂

Sorry to slighly hijack the thread

Sent you a referral if you haven't already gotten one dawheat. Hard to beat what they offer for $25 a month.
As for the phone adapter you can do what Epoman did and get a seperate phone adapter and router, this way you keep the router and you can get it with things like wireless and whatnot. Or you can get the free combo Linksys RT31P2 router/phone adapter that vonage offers.
Good luck with your new Vonage service. 🙂
