YAVR (yet another vista rant)

I just bought new laptop with vista h premium 64bit. It's a toshiba a135-4467 and I upgraded ram to 2gb. C2D, 2gb ddr2 pc24200, 160gb sata...I keep looking at cpu usage and it keeps jumping erratically upwards to 67% and nothing is running except for IE. Also all random HD access noise and it seems to be fast and yet next second it feels like it is crawling. I had x2 3800 2gb ddr and wd raptor and I swear it was faster in XP, both 32bit and 64bit. Also I hate the fact that I still can't use my BT hardware. Also I did do all tweaks and AERO is disabled. Only thing I am yet to do is add usb drive for readyboost. So here's what I am thinking:

a. Any way to do clean install of Vista to get rid of all Toshiba crap with my existing key?

b. Dual boot with XP and see whichever I prefer performance wise and get BT working.

c. There might be some stuff I can do to see if my system is not performing.

a. How are we to know? Did your computer come with a vista install dvd, recovery dvds, or a recovery partition?
b. Sounds good...but again, how are we to help if you don't even tell us what "BT hardware" you have? I do agree on Vista's BT stack being severely limited, though.
c. Um...ok?
d. You mentioned Aero doesn't work but don't mention what sort of videocard that notebook has...once again...how are we supposed to help?

When you first install Vista it spends some time indexing the hard drive for the search feature. It does this when it thinks the system is idle or not being used heavily. Don't know if this explains your problem, but it has tricked many others into thinking something wierd was going on post-install.

In your sig it says you have an Amd X2 4200+, not a 3800.

loup garou makes a good point. Answer some more of those questions and there's more we can help with.

Also, Vista allows you to customize how your system indexes everything.

As well as the indexing, Vista also defrags in the background whenever it gets the chance, defender may be scanning, what AV are you using?...

Vista and the associated softwares do a lot of stuff when idle, if you have a noisy HD like my WD raptor it can be annoying if you dont know whats going on. But tbh once I understood it was doing useful things then it stopped bothering me, and most importantly it stops doing that s**t when I start to do something :)

Ok, if it came with an OEM Vista DVD, pop it in and do a clean install to wipe out the Toshiba junk. Make sure there's a driver cd as well, although I doubt there will be much unrecognized by Vista.
A quick google shows that Moto has no plans for Vista (or x64 drivers) for that dongle...if you plan to use it with a headset...well, don't go out buying another dongle, as I've yet to see anyone get a BT headset to work with Vista at all.
As for Aero, the GMA950 will run it, you may have an app running that is forcing it out of Aero.
