YAVCT (Yet Another Video Card Thread)

Hello all,
Currently I have a 680i board with 2 8800GTX's. I've had these cards for 3 years or so. They are starting to 'show their age' if you know what I mean. I'm looking for recommendations on a single card, and my budget is a paultry $200. I've always run Nvidia, no particular reason 'cept maybe old memories of ATI driver problems other folks had.

Games I'm currently playing are BC2, Dirt23, FEAR2, which I can run at mostly medium settings at 1920 x Iforgetthisnumber.

What would be a 'decent' upgrade oh folks of AT? Perhaps there just isn't one based on my budget. Thanx for your time!

For $200 currently there is no single card that will be faster than 8800GTX SLI. Radeon 5850 would be a nice upgrade but that is in the $275-$300 range.

Yeah, what you have there is ~GTX280 performance. You're not really going to get much of an upgrade for $200

You would get $100+ if you sold both on ebay, with $300 you could buy a 5850 which would be a decent upgrade

Sell the 8800gtx's for 75$ a piece and get a gtx 470 for 350$.


And overclock that cpu!

Borealis - It doesn't get too warm in my room. During the summer the AC is on anyways. I bought a couple aftermarket heatsinks (Thermalright I think), and they seem to work quite well:

Damm those are some large heatsinks. You may be able to get more than $100+ for your GTX with those heatsinks, or if you still have the stock heatsinks, put em back on and sell your aftermarket heatsinks, maybe pickup an extra $40 or so.

Also, it looks like the bottom fan is running into the bottom of your case but I am guessing that is where your power supply etc is? In any event gotta love your mobo, nice to actually have PCI Express lanes that do not force the cards to basically touch each other.
