YAUSPST: Yet Another USPS Thread

i was wondering if anyone has used delivery confirmation to send to a PO Box before. i sent a letter for my girlfriend to the court in a different city to request defensive driving. i just checked my status online, and it shows:

We attempted to deliver your item at 12:10 pm on April 18, 2006 in PLANO, TX 75074 and a notice was left. It can be redelivered or picked up at the Post Office. If the item is unclaimed, it will be returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

wtf? how can you "attempt" to deliver to a PO Box and fail? i would assume that once the letter makes it to the PO Box it should show delivered right? why are they only leaving a notice to be claimed? i'm really worried because i only had a 10 business day window to get this letter in. you think the court will be understanding?

maybe b/c they need signature and no one is there at the PO box for signature. so they leave a note for the PO Box holder to come to the window and pick up a package (letter in your case).

I would never use DC when mailing to PO Boxes as the PO box might be getting huge amounts of mail (think mail-in-rebates) and the person picking up can just ignore that USPS note to pick up the letter from the window (or he/she might not have time to wait in line to pick up the letter from the window)

well, i had the post office worker confirm that delivery confirmation requires NO signature...

but like you said, i am regretting that i used delivery confirmation because they might ignore the ups note...my girlfriend is going to kill me if it doesn't get to court in time
