YAUSP: UPS really sucked, big time :(

Well here we go...

I had it with UPS in my area, they have given me the worst service, EVER. I will not ever, ever ship of have things delivered by them again, even if it means no free shipping, or higher cost.

First incident i have with them, i had a package sent from canada. I wasn't home so i asked them to redirect it to my office (delivery change request). So they did, and they processed it. Package never arrived, and after the next 2 days i called them to ask what's going on, they found out they slapped the wrong address on it. They will make another attempt tomorrow and they never did. I found out later that the package was sent back to the sender in the midst of all the change requests. I asked them what is the tracking number for the package so that i knoe the sender would get it back and UPS said that it is an internal number and cannot be tracked from the website. Up until NOW, neither i or the sender ever received the package and it was still under investigation as to why this package just "vanished". I'm out $250 for this.

Recently, i bought some stuff from Staples.. obviously they provide no other shipping method other than UPS. The package was supposed to be delivered on 6/16. I was not at home, and i made a delivery change request. The next 2 days, after the fact that i have submitted a delivery change request, the driver keeps on trying to deliver it to my home! I made a call to the local UPS distribution center and they are not sure why my request is not being processed. At this point, my package is on its 3rd delivery attempt and being held at the center. All they can say is that they will definitely deliver it to my Office address on 6/20 and they would have to notify whoever is holding the package. I made it clear to them that till will be a Business area, that has 9-5 work hour. It's almost 6pm now and still no package. I'm still waiting for the center to call me to explain what is going on.

I'm not sure if this is generally what's happening for everyone but the UPS in my area really sucked! They seem to ignore delivery request changes and made no effort to go the extra length to deliver any packages that was not delivered due to their fault.
I would pick up the package, but it will took me 2 hours of driving to get there in stop-and-go traffic.

Enough rant from me.

Hehehe didn't UPS asked for "Is there anything liquid, fragile or hazardous on this package?", maybe if you answered yes, they take no liability for their drivers kicking the package around? :p

What kind of stuff is being shipped to you? I seem to recall that most expensive electronic items are not allowed to be redirected
to alternate addresses to prevent fraud, however the CSR's at their 800 cannot identify these type of packages in their computer system.

Exactly. And if you work a 9-5 job, or you know that you are rarely home when UPS delivers in your neighborhood, why don't you just have your stuff shipped to your office from the get go? Instead of putting all these change delivery requests in and screwing up the process?

We have a couple of pretty good drivers around here, but they really screwed-up a couple of times at my old address. Some fine china, a wedding gift... Oy! We got it months after the wedding. Part of it was the shippers fault, but UPS definitely messed-up, too.

The funniest, and more annoying story is when I was building a PC for a friend a few years ago. The case was shipped in its own box, of course, separately from the rest of the shipment. The case never appeared. It was marked as signed by someone I never heard of, whereas normally the doorman/woman would have signed for it (doorman in university apartments, hehe I got lucky there). After many calls and UPS not having any idea of what was going on, I managed to find it at the public school system's local district office, three blocks away, sitting in a corner. Some idiot there had signed for it, saw it wasn't to the right address, and left it in a corner for all eternity. Unbelieveable!

Well the UPS center never called me. I spoke to the UPS rep on the 1-800 line and she said she put an urgent message to the UPS center and they should get back to me within 1 hr. I can't believe they don't even try to call!
The hours on the website says they open from 8am to 8pm M-F. It's now 7:33, and 30 minutes ago i called and they said that somehow the UPS center has closed for the day. WTF??? Now he said all he can do is put another request for the supervisor to call me. What makes them think they will call me now after they ignore my previous requests?? They cannot deliver on monday and they can only "promise" to deliver it on tuesday and have the supervisor call me. This is getting on my nerve....

Maybe you should start having everything sent to your business instead of dicking around with them all the time?

I would. Now i have set up one of my credit card to send the billing to my office so that there would be no further delays in processing for address verification.
Now all i need is to get that package they still hold... somehow, the delivery center in my office area has been very prompt in delivering packages whereas in my home area they even ignore a simple note on the door to leave it on the leasing office (it's just a few steps away!). They decided to haul it back to the center. Sometimes they leave the package, most of the time they don't.
