So, yes, this is yet another UPS sucks thread. So today I'm expecting a helmet that I've been waiting a over a month for (place sent me the wrong size before, had to send it back, finally getting the replacement). Tracking showed it would be delivered today, so I was excited to finally get the helmet. This morning at around 9am I check tracking, and see this message:

"THE RECEIVER'S ADDRESS IS INCOMPLETE. UPS IS ATTEMPTING TO OBTAIN THE ENTIRE ADDRESS AND COMPLETE THE DELIVERY.;THE ADDRESS HAS BEEN CORRECTED. THE DELIVERY HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED"

ARGH!!! But, I see the delivery is still scheduled for today. So I call UPS to find out for sure, and they say there were able to figure out my correct address, and the package is on the truck and will be delivered today. OK, great.

So, I get home and eventually the UPS guy shows around 6:40pm. He's got another package for me, but not the one I've been waiting for. I ask him where the other package is, he says he knows nothing about it. I ask him if he can check his truck to see if it's there. He goes out and checks the truck, and then comes back to tell me he doesn't have it.

So, I get on the phone and call customer service to find what the hell is up. They insist it's on the truck, and a second driver will be bringing it. Flash forward to 8pm, and the package has not arrived. I check tracking, and see this:

" 6:51 P.M. THE RECEIVER WAS UNAVAILABLE TO SIGN ON THE 1ST DELIVERY ATTEMPT. A 2ND DELIVERY ATTEMPT WILL BE MADE"

What the hell???? I didn't leave the house after the first package arrived at 6:37, but I they claim I wasn't home for this one? No one knocked or rang the bell, the dog didn't bark. Not to mention there is NO SLIP on the door. To top it off, when people aren't home, the UPS drivers usually always leave packages at the apartment rental office, well they didn't.

So, apparently the driver lied. He either had the package, found out later and was too lazy to come back. Or the other driver who had it was too lazy to bother to try delivery. So they lied and said I wasn't here. I called the local center to complain, but the manager wasn't there, he apparently had left already . I got some low level supervisor, and told him the story. At first he tried to make an excuse for the driver, but after I told him I received another package 14 minutes before this one which the tracking indicated "HANDED TO CUST", he changed his tune. I will be speaking with the center manager on Monday about this. It's one thing to F up, which this location does all the time, it's another to lie about it.

BTW, my Dad actually worked at this UPS center for 12 years as a heavy duty mechanic, before injuring his back and having to retire. He doesn't have a high opinion of UPS either. He said it was likely true the manager wasn't there, because they usually leave at noon on Fridays.

Cliffs:
1)Expecting package
2)Got one package, but not the one I was eagerly waiting for.
3)UPS lied and said they made an attempt but I wasn't home, when I really was
4)UPS SUCKS.

UPDATE: If anyone cares. I little update. I talked to the center manager today, apparently there were two drivers. The second driver, for whatever reason, didn't feel like making an attempt so just said I wasn't there. According to the center manager this is not the first time this guy has had problems and this "will be dealt with." The center manger told me this is "one more thing that we have to document about this particular employee's performance problems and bring to his union reps."+

Erm, I think it's fairly obvious that this is probably not UPS's fault. I think the company sending the helmet probably messed up your address so it was difficult to read and the package has been delivered to the wrong address where there was no one to sign for it. Seems logical to me.

Erm, no. Like, I said, when I called the customer service number earlier in the day they said they found the correct address. All that happened was the apartment number was left off the label. They found my apartment number from previous shipments. They read off what address they had it going to, with the correct apartment number they located. I verified the address, and they insisted it was on the truck and would be delivered today.

Can I add a story?

My fiancee's engagement ring was overnighted through ups. I was supposed to leave that night to meet her up state at her rent's house. I come home from work with a note on my door "Sorry we missed you etc." (Time=3:00pm) So I call the number and talk to the lady, she asks me for the number on my paper, she tells me that she will call me back(Time=3:15pm). I get a call back from ups(Time=4:30) They tell me that I won't be able to pick my package up until 8:00pm. I am upset but say ok whatever that I understand the driver is still out since freaking 10A.M the time my slip said and that 1 driver works from 10am til 8pm. So I arrive at the package place at 8:00pm and wait, The driver finally comes in(9:00pm), Truck is emptied(9:30), desk lady tells me that they didn't find my package(10:00pm) I say to her I am not leaving until the package is in my hands that I will search for it myself, UPS Search team involving 3 people including a manager go through 1 truck to find a package, they find it at (12:00am) Their excuse "The driver didn't do what he was supposed to do" I love it!

Wow, that's a story. I'm sure you were sweating some bullets there for awhile. Glad to hear you did finally get your package and hopefully that ring is on your fiance's hand, and or now wife!
