13 million yen worth of sea urchins stolen from fisheries association
MIYAKO, Iwate -- Thousands of sea urchin products valued at about 13 million yen were stolen from a refrigerated storehouse at a fisheries association here, police said.
A worker at the Omoe fisheries association noticed that the urchins were missing at about 11 a.m. on July 23, and the association filed a report with police two days later.
Investigators said the refrigerated storehouse from which the sea urchins were stolen was located inside a processing plant. The door to the plant had been locked in two places. There was also a lock on the storehouse that required a 4-digit code, but there was no evidence to suggest it had been broken.
Workers did not notice anything amiss when they examined the warehouse on July 22. (Mainichi)
