YATVT: Contrast ratio and PC input questions

Thanks to Uncle Sam I'm finally upgrading. I think I'm leaning toward plasma as I watch a lot of sports and the TV will be in the basement.

Regarding contrast ratio:

My understanding is that the difference between 20,000:1 and 10,000:1 is negligible at best and in a room with any amount of ambient light is absolutely meaningless.

Question 1: Is this statement correct?

Question 2 (really 2, 3 & 4): What is the PC input? Is that a traditional "VGA" input or basic monitor input? Couldn't I just use HDMI if I had a video card with HDMI out?

Thanks.
