Friend at work got a ticket a week ago. He was speeding, but not for what the ticket is for imho. Look at the freeform artwork and decide.

He acknowledges he was going 40 mph. He originally saw the sign that says to go 20 mph during 7-9 and 3-4 (school hours). approx 50-70 feet later, there is a 35 mph sign which is a few hundred feet before the school. There is no sign after the school that says "end school zone". The next traffic sign is approx 1/8 mile down the road which shows 45 mph. He was driving during the school hours on the sign.

Our feeling at work is that once a new speed sign is introduced, it trumps any previous sign speed.

Right, or wrong? His ticket was for 40 mph in a 20 mph school zone, $250.00

Not if there are exceptions on the first sign. Those School Zone signs are required to be posted a certain distance from the school.

The demarkation for the End of School Zone can be considered where the opposing traffic is entering the School Zone.
