New laptop. First boot and setting things up and I went in to double check the time zone. Decided to update the time and received the error message; An error occured getting the status of the last synchronization. The RPC server is unavailable.

Further investigation shows that there is no Windows Time service running. By that I mean it's not even in the list.

XP Home.

WTF?

I now have the Service running. But still the same error message when updating the time.

Do I need to reboot, or register some dll's or what?

Thanks stash, I was hoping you'd respond. Please lead the way for me.

Edit: Hah! The Service wasn't running. It's working fine now. Thanks so much!

Just curious. Why would this situation happen?

That's the million dollar question, and I dont' really have an answer. But you may want to do a check for any malware running on your box.
