YATT (Yet another telemarketer thread)

StageLeft

No Lifer
OK I was called by AT&T again and I cut her off immediately and said please don't ever call me again in a rough tone. I heard an "OK" as I hung up.

But then. Oh and this makes me mad. :|:| Mad. :|:| I keep getting these calls from unknown caller. I keep getting a click on my answering machine. So yesterday I answer and I say hello, hello, etc. I always give two hellos, then I hang up. But this time I sat there for 20 seconds and finally hear a recording to call a number about a freaking business opportunity. Am I wrong to think that if you're going to call me on the phone the least you can do is use a real person so that I can tell them to buzz off? Calling me with an automated service is like a slap across my face. It hurts more than a live telemarketer ever could.

And on another note can I literally tell a telemarketer to F-off? I mean what will they do about that? I don't think the police would really give a rat's ass!

the new telemarketing thing is to dial the house, and if no one picks up, they don't dial back... if you pick up.. you're added into their "to call" list from a real person.
the telebuster thing you see on TV detects if it's computer generated or not and cuts out the ones that are 😛
you shouldn't have picked up 😀

Telemarketers are the reason I have an answering machine to help screen my calls. Caller ID + Answering machine = I never pick up unless I know it's someone I want to talk to.
But damn coming home and seeing 3 messages and then playing them only to hear BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP pisses me off.

I am on PA's no call list. 🙂

Me too, and it sounds like they mean business (already two companies have been fined and more to come).

Hope they nail the SOB debt consolidation scum who tried calling me (so I can get my reward 😀 )

I'm on NY's no call list.

But then again, I only have a cell phone and if I don't recognize the number I usually let it go to voicemail. I figure if its a real person needing to get in touch with me, they'll leave one and I can call them back.

You can put that tone on your outgoing message to accomplish the same thing. Just download "sit.wav", edit out the second and third tone (only the first one counts) and play that into your answering maching at the beginning of your outgoing message. This will tell the autodialers that they've reached a non-working number and they should take you off their call list.

I signed up for the Wisconsin no call list and havn't gotten one call (form a telemarketer) in quite awhile. 😀😀😀
