My hang out for MMA etc etc. I give a dollar for my free coke refills and usually 5 bucks on my meals or more. I am close to 50%, the girls there take care of us regulars, so I tip them well. I also bring them things like Cinnabons, cookies etc etc.

Oh you're that guy. :/ The 45 year old that hits on the 19 year old servers.

What's the point of eating out unless it's somewhere fantastic? On the Border or shitholes like that suck. I can spend 30 minutes in the kitchen and blow their shit away and for half the price. I'm a horrible cook as well.

Raise the minimum wage to about $9 an hour which is what the minimum wage of 1968 would be today adjusted for inflation.

Then tip if you want but you don't feel pressure from the restaurants.

This is already done in many states, people still are pressured and expected to tip. Here waitstaff usually make around 9 an hour BEFORE tip. Everyone is still expected to tip 15 to 25%.

Wait staff has to be paid minimum wage in the US, just like any other employee. If the tips don't add up to that, the employer has to make up the difference.

Raise the min wage to $9 an hour? That won't do anything.

It's already well over that in many areas. They still expect tips.

Santa Fe and San Francisco are well past $10/hr. Can we quit tipping there?

Bartenders and wait staff who do make well more than minimum wage still expect tips.

15%?

...
:hmm:

.....
oh, you live in Kansas; where McMansion = $75k

k.

It's a national average. No, 75k in most cities in Kansas will buy you a 1960-1980's small starter house with a single car garage if you are lucky.

/shrug.. I like on the border. Its a nice quick place away from home to take the family that wont break the bank.

The "point of eating out" as you so elequently put it, is to provide a special treat for the family, not necessarily to go somewhere "fantastic".

In the OP one unsubstantiated claim is made that a waiter said "no we want 25%". What fucking bullshit, no waiter would ever say that and the article is a fraudulent piece of shit hack article designed to rally anti-tippers.

Congratulations on linking some stupid UK magazine which is jealous of the good food and service we get here in the states.

There's no way in hell I am paying an additional 25% on anything. In that case, I will stay my ass at home and eat or just order carryout instead of dining in.

id take kansas over anywhere on the E or W coast, thats for darn sure.

Anyone would except for the folks who live on either coast. :D

I kinda like it that way. You couldn't pay me to live in NYC or LA but, I'm glad some folks think it's great. The biggest problem is that 'coasters' tend to think the everyday insanity they take for granted is the way everyone lives. It's one of the reasons our politicians are so out of touch.
