Curious... I never thought of that when they came to replace my windshield a couple months back. Just had to file another claim because something hit my windshield yesterday and but a nice chip/crack in it.

So are you supposed to tip these guys when they come to you or not?

Serious? If so, yes. At least 30-40%!

Serious what? Serious that they come out to you to do whatever work it is that needs to be done? Yes. Serious about whether they should get a tip or not... I wouldn't have asked the question if I wasn't serious.

I mean come on - I had a dude come out in like 35 degree windy weather to replace my windshield a couple months ago... I figured it's got to suck standing out there in my driveway for an hour.

I didn't tip that time cause I didn't think about it.

I am a compulsive tipper, I guess you could say.
Last winter I had a windshield replaced, below freezing and sleeting.
Guy did a quick job and did it good, so I tipped him $20 (paid for the windshield online with debit card).
Earlier this week, had a problem with my heat pump I couldn't figure out, called a Tech. out. He got here in a couple hours (after driving almost an hour), got in, checked everything out, & told me my thermostat had gone bad.
He asked if I wanted him to install a thermostat or if I wanted to install my own, (I had been considering a new programmable anyway), so I told him I would just install my own.
When I asked what I owed, he told me just for one hour labor!
Gave the guy a very generous tip, as he could have told me I needed something expensive & without the proper HVAC tools, I couldn't argue with him!
I told him the tip was for being honest & efficient.
I'm sure that if I ever need either of their services again, I will get treated right.
