    Hello everyone,

So I got my first speeding ticket driving to vegas from Los Angeles. If any of you have driven on the 15 freeway you know the huge sloping valleys along the way to vegas. I was caught in Barstow on the downslope of the hill as you make your way to the outlet shops (hence I couldn't see the cop as I made my way up the hill).

I know I was going over the limit, but given where he stopped me I don't think 80 is unreasonable in a 70 zone. People are constantly driving 100+ trying to make it to Vegas in 3 hours, so I guess I'm unlucky. BTW, I was driving a red car :(

After much thinking, I've decided to pay the $100 fine since I don't want to spend $40 in gas and time going out to barstow. So the next step for me is traffic school to avoid points, but since this is my first ticket I don't know how to approach this.

The ticket is due in January, so when do I have to do complete the school and do I mail it with bail?

    thanks,

    Rig

Was that when the drugs began to take hold?

Call the court; they'll let you know what you do about traffic court. After all, they get money out of you for doing it.

Traffic school for 10mph speeding seems stupid. There are so many worse drivers out there that do worse things than speeding.

Isn't the error on the radars anywhere from 10-15%?

he already said he was going to... way to jump on him like every other person on their speeding high-horse when someone makes a thread about getting a ticket.

That's exactly what he told me... it makes sense since I had 3 adults and a child in the car, but I was pissed cause its a first offense, it was only 10 miles over, and it was a downslope.

I didn't argue though, just sat there in quiet humiliation and took the ticket.

Just because it's illegal does it make it wrong?

So I have to pay the bail plus the $29 for "more traffic school information" then pay for my own traffic school?

Or can I just go online and take the traffic school classes and then mail the certificate?

Thanks for the help and support.

we're not arguing right vs. wrong. I speed ALL the time. But if I got a ticket for speeding, I'd pay it. The only time I'm argued about a ticket was when I got one for parking in my own driveway and was given a $135 ticket for having my bumper in the sidewalk.

I always wonder why people make threads about tickets they got and then ask what they should do next. I mean, has it ever occurred to them that there is a telephone number that they could call and ask someone who would know the answer?

    You're a tard.

What is the point about making speeding ticket threads? Usually there is none. All those people who are on 'High-Horses' DO speed, probably all the time, but when they get a ticket, they don't make a useless thread and/or rant about it. They just pay the fine or figure out what to do w/o asking AT.

Seriously, almost ever ticket thread is to find a way to weasle out of the ticket or expect someone to know the exact answers like what to do next, or how to go through def. driving, or how much the ticket costs. All of those answers can and will be answered by doing a little work called dialing a phone number. yeesh.

What an ass of a cop. 80 in 70 zone is very reasonable.

Also it is only a 1 point ticket.

I just wanted a few quick answers to some questions that are not available on the notice. I don't want to have to call unless I have to because government agencies take forever to answer questions/pickup the phone. Besides its not like I'm asking something that no one has done before.

like I said above this was my first offense and I seriously don't know how to approach this.

Usually it depends on the cop or how good of a story you can make up. I had a friend who used to carry a half used pack of exlax pills. When he got pulled over explained his urgent need for a bathroom and most of the time would get off without a ticket. Hell one time the cop followed him to a nearby rest stop and my friend sat in there for like 10 minutes, during that time the cop just left.

Anyway, most of the time if you are just under 10 they usually won't pull you over. Most of the time, I'll go about 8 or 9 over the limit and been pretty lucky. Radar detectors are nice till you get pulled over with one in a place you aren't supposed to have it. If they see you scrambling to hide it, may cause even more trouble. CB's work well for very long drives to find out where the cops are :)

80 in a 70? Super Fuzz must be going for Creep of the Year. That's pitiful. He's certainly earning his $75,000 per year.

The ticket should have an appearance date on it. You show up at the courtroom either on that date or ealier. You may show up for court earlier but not later than that date. They shuffle people through the court system en mass, so dont stress. Dress professional and be respectful. If the judge is having a good day and you have no prior and look professional there is a small chance he may dismiss it, but dont count on it. The judge will offer you to plea one of three choices. 1) Not guilty = you will be assigned a trial date, 2) No Contest = you are assessed the fee and you go pay it, or 3) No Contest & Traffic School = you are assessed the speeding fee that you have to pay and then given a time frame to complete traffic school. You pay for traffic school on top of the speeding fine. Whether it's one point or three, it's worth paying for traffic school to keep it off your insurance. Once you complete traffic school, you show back up at the clerks and show them the certificate. Most will allow you to mail in your certificate, but if you choose to do it this way make sure you send it Certified Mail w/Return Receipt.

your country just loses at speeding

i know we have speed cameras galore, but only the retards get caught by them....i mean theyre painted bright yellow and a well sign posted.

70 limit on our motorways and you can generally get away with 85-90 and the police wont bother with you, so long as your just keeping with the general flow of traffic.

of course if your blasting along at 140 its different, but at least the police are a bit more lenient on motorways, its not worth their time to get people cruising at 80-90mph.
