YATT: $7 beer. Do you tip $1, $2, or $3?
So I was at a bar last weekend drinking beer. I noticed that many people left $1 tip for every $7 beer they bought. I thought it was common knowledge that barmaids deserved at least $2 or even $3 tip for each beer. I always tip $3 for every $7 beer. I'm not rich or pretend to make tons of money, but I seriously thought a $1 tip was too low.

I'm curious about what do you tip when buying beer at a bar....

Where is this $7 beer you speak of you can't get a beer for less than $12 here in Chicago.

Things have changed. When I was stationed in Great Lakes in 2000, I used to go to Micky Finns (5th best microbrew in Chicagoland area) and get tall glasses for 4-5 bucks. Not to mention kick-ass pizza for 10 bucks.

For those kinds of prices I think I'd stick to store bought.

Or you can get a 16oz can of pisswater just outside of Wrigley Field after a Cubs game for 6 bucks.

You're going to the wrong places if you're paying 12 bucks a beer.

Even if I did drink, $0. They're pouring the damn bottle into a glass if not just taking the cap off for you.

By not tipping these losers I am making them decide to get a real job that actually contributes to society.

$1 per drink, at most. If I order two drinks, I'll still only tip $1. 3+ drinks and the tip increases.

Your Canadian so clueless to much of this and a HUGE problem down here in S. Florida. So much so that some places have signs directly to your kind and even those that joke about going elsewhere if you have an issue with tipping.

The tip amount is not based on just the service, it's tied to the item/fee/etc.

It's much like a hamburger plate at a five star restaurant in and of itself is not worth the $30 they are charging for it.

o rry?

Yes, really. South Florida is a popular spot for Canadians to stop. It's been in the papers how bad the locals look at them for various exploits they do trying to claim they don't understand the system.

They abuse the permit only beach parking especially often using it to avoid the hotel's parking fees. Then the local restaurants by not only neglecting the wait staffs but camping out at tables to catch up with emails and phone calls back home.

If I ever see another "Attention Canadians (and other tourists): TIPPING IS CUSTOMARY AND NOT INCLUDED!" I am going to stick it up on an image host.

Yeah...but that includes the Northerners who end up 'playing Canadian' as we call it.

The fucked up thing is I think all of Canada tips for food...

Right now I am sure the owners don't care if the staffs get shafted as the economy is in the hole. In the heyday though it was aggressively countered including some popular spots including the tip on the check automatically for even single patrons.

The standard here is parties of 6 or more get 18% added on. It's not set in stone and can be adjusted, but you always here some tourist: "OH WE SUPPOSED TO TIP TOO?"
