I don't get anything fancy done to my hair so I just go to Great Clips. It's $13. If the haircut is fine, what do I tip? I get the idea that it should be a bit less than say a waiter/waitress tip, but I don't really know.

I give them either $2-3 or a wink along with a slap on the ass. They seem to prefer the money. :(

the barber i go to owns his shop, so anything he gets, goes straight to him. that said, I pay $17 and I tip $1

i pay $16 for a haircut. i tip $5 so that the barber remembers me and sometimes will take me ahead of other people and will make sure to do a good job instead of rushing me out the door.

I got my haircut at a swanky place once and actually asked the stylist what a normal tip is. She said that most people paid the typical 15%.

I go to the same place and ask for the same girl every time and tip $5 for a $15 hair cut, so she remembers me and she does a good job. :)

Really? I've never seen a barber actually call up someone ahead of the line. I know I'd be rather pissed off if someone got called up before me. 'course I've been going to the same barber shop for about 15 years now.

And to answer the question, I tip $2 on a $10 haircut.

I get a haircut with my color and if the whole experience was good to great, I tip well. About 15-20%.
For other... services... waxing, i tip more than that.

So, you wait for change from your $20?

I pay $18 for the hair cut. I give her $25.
Two bucks isn't enough to round it to $20 and handing out $1s seems like a cheapskate.

I pay $4 and tip $2... it's a very quick job... I go to the same guy though so around the holidays I give a bit more. Less than 5 minutes each sitting - easy money for them. I do despise hauling my ass out of the house just for a cut so I've been begging the wife to learn a simple cut - hell I sit at home everyday anyway.

I pay only what I'm charged.
I require minimal effort on their part and the price is exorbitant enough at $14. Twice what would be reasonable.
I will not be peer pressured into tipping.

If I were wildly impressed with my new look, I could conceivably tip.
