Yate Loons & other fan questions

I remember a few years ago on AT that everyone swore by Yate Loons specifically the 28db 37 cfm model (i think thats the one). that being said, are they still the best bang for the buck case fans/cpu cooler fans? and where can i get them? (i remember back in the day ppl were talking about how alot of yates were fake)do places like Frys or Microcenters have them in stock?

i know at some point im going to be getting something like a coolermaster hyper 212+ because everyone here has been raving about it (any others around 20-30 that perform very well?). I want to know how yates would work on this.

another question i would like to bring up is the case of fan filters. my antec 300 case, i looked has the front fan filter. are filters necessary and if so, where can i get a few decent ones that wont block airflow for my other intake fans (side of case) and possibly other places so i can keep my computer nice and tidy.

my build isnt assembled yet and i might be upgrading the an i5 750 isntead of the i3 530 so would the coolermaster hyper 212+ be required to do a small-mild oc? i plan on sticking to stock as im stretching my budget as is.

I got mine at http://www.jab-tech.com a couple years ago where they are still pretty cheap. If there is a better deal, I'd love to know. Out of ten 120x120's running 24/7, I've had to replace 2 of them when the bearings started getting a little noisy. I paid $3.15-ish each for an order that included 12-14 fans, a mixture of medium and high speed ones.

For fan filters, I use carbon pre-filters that one might use for a home hepa air filter. They breath really well and you can buy them very cheaply here and then cut them to size. They are sold in varying sizes, but I buy 4-packs of 34002, for $22. That's 10"x48", 4 of them, which provides quite a bit of material. I have 10 120mm's in my case (a custom mountainmods case) so I always like to have a lot of backup filters. For odd reasons, I find myself using these filters for a lot of other things around the house than just for the computer.

Have 6x of Jab's 120mm YL high speeds. They aren't quiet by any extent of the imagination, but I'll be damned if they don't move some air. Since quiet wasn't important for this build, I grabbed the highest/loudest ones, but I'm sure the quieter ones are nice too. 🙂

The "Yate Conspiracy" is pretty much over with any recent stock. I actually have a d12sl-12 from xoxide, performance-pcs, and petras (the supposed "best" of them) and the oldest one, the orange one from perf-pcs, has the best sound signature. So whatever.

Check these out at Microcenter:

When I was at Microcenter, this looked really good for 11.99 (ignore the 13.99 on the box):
http://lanoc.org/review/hardware/cooling/1181-xilence-120mm-red-wing-fan

21.2 dB
1500 rpm
57.91 CFM

But then today, I stumbled across this Cooler Master R4-L2R-20AC-GP 19dB fan and now I don't know what to do:
http://forums.anandtech.com/archive/index.php/t-289925.html
http://forum.coolermaster.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12351

69.69/90 cfm
19 dB
2000 rpm

$5.99 at SVC
http://www.svc.com/r4-l2r-20ac-gp.html

I have always preferred ball bearings for longevity. Just don't know about sleeve bearings.

Which one of the gentle typhoons you guys would recommend? I think I do have some zalman fan controllers sitting somewhere, mabye I should get the highest speed (1850rpm) and throttle it...

Get the 1850 and throttle it. The lower speed models are all the same fan, just pre-throttled.
