Yate Loon or Scythe? For Cooler Master 690

Opinions? I was after the D12SL-12C due to the 20mm thickness but the comments i've read seem to indicate the fan was noisier then expected and didn't seem to move much air. The Scythe's seem to move a fair bit of air while still being fairly quiet, tho they cost a few $'s more.

These would be used for replacement case fans in a Cooler Master 690.

slipstreams IMHO. the YL's are good in silent systems when run on 7v or lower but, the slipstreams are great for quiet, high airflow case fans. Are you looking to make it quieter or cooler?

Quieter. The stock Cooler Master fans actually seem to be doing a good job of keeping everything cool enough.

The only Slipstream I've used is the 800mm version. It was noticeably quieter than my Yate Loon D12SL12-L (a 25mm variety) with no loss in cooling performance.

against the stock cooler masters I'd say pick up a 1600rpm if they're to be motherboard controlled or a 1200 if you want to run them at 12v. if you want very quiet you can get the 800 but, airflow will be notably decreased from the stock fans.

DSF: Did you mean the D12SL-12? If so, then i'm not surprised the 800RPM Slip Stream was quieter, tho it moves about the same amount of air. Good to know.

Derwen: So you're saying the stock CM fans move at least 40CFM? If so, then i'll look to the 1200RPM Scythe Slip Stream as it's rated at 68CFM and 24dBA.

The specs on the Ultra Kaze line are nice, but i'm concerned that the 38mm width would encroach on the area around the CPU and could limit my options re: CPU coolers. With one of the stock CM 120x25mm fans mount in the top-rear position it's already quite close to the top edge of the board and the 4-pin 12V connector on my P5K-E.

AFAIK this is the fan most CM cases come with and the cfm is just slightly over rated and the dbA is pretty under rated. The Ultra Kaze are very nice fans but, for quiet, you can't beat the slipstreams. I personally like the slipstream 1600's for versatility sake. it's 1600 at 12v, 1200 at 9v ~900 at 7v, 800 at 6v and ~660 at 5v so with just standard voltages you can run this fan anywhere you want in the RPM range and have pretty much any noise level you want with a decent fan controller.

I've got the ultra kazes, 1K, 2K and 3K's and I don't like their sound profile as much as the slipstreams and for the cost I'd rather get ZM-F3s.

Zalman F3 is an excellent fan too. If I wasn't loaded down with fans already, I'd get some to try. Maybe I will anyway...

I have a 703 letter box FILLED with fans I'm not using in addition to the dozen or so I have laying around pending use or decision. I just about two weeks ago got a shipment of 4 1600 slipstreams, 4 3K ultra kazes and 5 zm-f3s just because I was running low on the slipstreams and I wanted to play with the ultra kazes and the zm-f3s. I'm with fans like aigomorla is with water parts, his toys just costs 5-10x what mine do.
