YASTT (Speeding ticket)

I got a ticket (80 in a 60) while driving to Ohio over the weekend (I live in Indiana). I accept total blame, I know what I was doing, got pulled over, end of story. I'm not going to bother fighting the ticket, but I'm just wondering if my insurance rates will go up and if I should maybe take a defensive driving class online. This was my first ticket...

Edit:
Also, what would happen if I went to court just hoping that the officer didn't show up, and she actually did? What happens when you go to court for a ticket? Is there any likelihood that I could get the court location changed to closer to Indiana ?

Yes, your insurance rates will probably go up.

Go to court if it's reasonably close, see if you can get deferred adjudication (traffic school, keep your nose clean for a specified period of time, ticket disappears).

Depends on what you plan to do about it. Are you planning on cleaning up your driving? Do you speed regularly? etc... If you normally drive well, then I would say just try to be better in the future. As for insurance, I don't know.

go to traffic school. If you have a clean record and haven't had a ticket in over 18 months then you should qualify. by the way you could take traffic school online too. They should have a number of traffic schools listed once you get your bill by mail.

How many times will I have to say this in the YASTT threads?

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER PLEAD GUILTY even if you are! Forget the idiots who post about owning up to it and yadda yadda yadda because they "don't" speed, etc. They simply don't know the truth about the system.

It's all about the insurance costs. The state wants your money. See, if you plead guilty, then they take your money and your insurance is raised for the next 5 years. SO pretty much, you will be financially raped! If you plead NOT guilty, then you have a fighting chance. The prosecutor and judge will work out a deal with you to lower the charges so you get less points (depending on the seriousness and number of repeat offenses you have) and possibly a lower fine. A day off work is worth losing than thousands of dollars out of your pocket to the greedy insurance companies.
