So I take my lunch break today to ship a package off...most times it is okay...but for some reason today everything was just all fuxored.
So I get to the PO and i don't recognize any of the normal peoples (only 3 people working)...there on number 77 I pull out my number...87...and all 10 people it looks like are waiting...so i sit down and wait...and wait...and wait...15 minutes goes by and I look up...what number are they at? 77 of course. So i stick around jsut to see how long it takes before a window opens up...another 5 minutes goes by...finally a guy gets through with his transaction (after being asked if he wants stamps, packing materials, being read every rule and rgulation they have)...and the guy sitting next to me with #78 gets up with a gleam of hope in his eye...and what else happens but the teller shuts down her window and goes to lunch. I just shake my head and leave...
Why do they do this? Is there any way to rant and moan to anybody higher up? I mean when you have 20 customers waiting and are taking 15-20 mins per cust and you only have 2 people working there is something seriously wrong with that business model.

Think about it that Lunch time has got to be their busiest time followed by when school lets out(I know it's summer) and maybe first thing in the morning. So to have lunch during your busiest time is probably the stupidest thing you can do. Of course, this all was gubberment started...

So why not use a pre-paid mailing label. You do realize you aren't helping anyone by standing in line and making a transaction that you could have done online.

That's the Post Office for you.

...and the DMV......and the EDD.......and the passport office.................

So true about the passport deal. We had an appointment for like 8:00 or 8:30 in the morning or something like that, my mom called the previous day and it was all settled. So we drive 1.5 hours up to Los Angeles to get our passports. They won't let us in. There is a COMPLETE lack of communication between the federal government and local government, so they have no idea that we already had authorization to go in and held us outside for literally about 6 hours. Then this guy finally comes out and helps us out by telling us to call directly to their building and keep pressing through this series of automated messages and just hope that one of their appointments cancels and that we can be fortunate enough to snag the spot. So we're sitting there calling repeatedly having no luck. Then we decide to call the federal number again and we get a different lady (mind you, we had already called probably five times and had them fax directly to the building we were outside of our names so that we could enter).

So this other person decides to write up an emergency form or something of that nature so we can get in. Then boom, it's all taken care of and we enter. Literally 8 hours after we arrive. We HAD to get our passports that day, because our flight was leaving the next day (for a funeral). Completely ridiculous. I will NEVER forget that experience.

The main argument people use to say we need the gov't to run the postal service / why it is so unprofitable (or barely profitable) is b/c it has to deliver EVERYWHERE. The great part is that, at my dorms, UPS & Fedex are happy to deliver, but USPS? Nooo...you have to pay them for a PO box... :|:|
