YaST system update problem

When I do a system update with YaST it freezes in the middle of downloading a patch (no specific one because after the first time it froze I restarted and did a system update again but deselected that particular patch and it froze at a different one). So it does not even get to the installation but freezes when downloading patches.
What could be the cause of that? I have done a successful system update right after I installed Suse 10.0 which was a couple weeks ago. Please help!

which logs (sorry, I'm still a linux noob). All that freezes is the system update window (I can still move it around with the mouse though). The download bar just stops moving and I can see that is doesn't download anymore because the orange light at the ethernet connection on my laptop doesn't blink anymore but is just green. But Suse does not freeze; I can open any program or shut the computer down.

Its most likely because of the mirror you're downloading it from is running low on bandwidth or has too many connections. That happened to me before when updating KDE to 3.5 and I chose a slow mirror. If you're installing patches, just use YOU (YaST Online Update), there should be an icon in the bottom right corner for it. Then you can specify which mirror to use. I've always used mirrors.kernel.org because its always been much faster than the others.

Make sure you know it's really frozen. Some apps like OpenOffice are huge dl's and it looks like it's freezing for quite a while and I let it run overnight and it's done when I wake up. Not sure if this is your problem but it does happen. That probably has to do with what SleepWalkerX mentioned also about the mirror.

^^yeah, i had a similar problem with a mirror that had a slow connection/was running out of bandwidth - i just changed mirrors and retried. this was on debian, however, but its all the same in the end

Yeah, damn OpenOffice internationalization stuff. I swore mine froze too. Just uncheck OpenOffice if you don't use it and it will go worlds faster.
