My mom's got a yahoo address and (*knock on wood*) she's never received much spam in six years. She usually uses it for family and friends, no business. Since I've formatted and reinstalled windows and office on her computer, she's getting CRAPLOADS of porn spam. The day before she asked me to format her pc and start over, she renewed her anti-virus subscription with Symantec. That's the only thing she's ever done with her address that was related to business in any way (Symantec asks for an email address and she actually used it thinking they wouldn't sell it).
What's going on? Has anybody else had an issue like this or know of Symantec selling email addresses? I just don't get how she can go six years without virtually any spam on a lightly-used email address and, within days of re-subscribing to the anti-virus subscription, she's getting LOADS of porn spam.
