yet another science thread:

Just watched A.I. and looks like humans are long extinct when aliens came...anyway, during the past billion years, planet's climate fluctuated back and forth in the Ice Ages. Do you think humans (now that we exist) on Earth can weather an Ice Age? Will we find a way to survive - what are your thoughts?? I think we will, but it's going to cost a lot of lives. :Q

i seriously doubt it. we dont have the know how to survive longterm with no resources coming in. We could probably save our knowldge in some form or shape but no way the human race could survive.

I could survive.

Myself and a few friends have a contingency plan in place in case of disaster. :Q:D

I don't see why not. We survived the last one, and we were much less knowledgeable then. A lot of people would die, but the species would survive.

I predict nerds everywhere would survive and call in on all those "Not if you were the last man on earth" lines. The heat from their machines would make their living spaces the only hospitable areas ever. Their case modding skills would allow them to craft crude, but effective means of eeking out survival in the harsh wilderness. The vast resources of the internet will have been saved to massive hard drives by then. So, in short, be nice to your nerds ladies...they're the only ones left! :p

Seriously,
The vast majority of humans would die. There'd prolly be pockets of humanity who have the resources to adapt. The first major world power to give in would prolly be the US since we're so tied to everything else. At the very least, tho, you'd see a much less crowded internet -> GOAL!

I think, just like with the whole nuclear winter scenario, most people would die. It would have to be really, really bad to completely wipe us out.

Does an ice age literally mean that the whole earth is frigid? Even at the equator? lol..

They weren't aliens.

:Q

what makes you say that? they looked like aliens to me

Yeah, kinda misleading. They were just advanced A.i. (robots). They were searching for David in the ice at the end because they wanted to learn about their creators since david was the only robot ever built with human emotions.

I don't believe the Ice Age meant the entire earth was covered in winter weather. Surely there would be many tropical locations that remained warm.

In any event, I know I'd survive. If cro-magnon man can do it with spears, I know I can do it with a deer rifle.
