Well, I finally got the battery cover off of my camera, and it seems the contact at the bottom of the battery chamber is badly corroded. The little cover just flaked off, and there is a nice hole in the bottom of the battery chamber now. :(
It seems that it would need to be totally opened and the battery contacts redone. Any idea what I should do?

If the camera is worth half a crap then I would send it back to the manufacturer for repair. Maybe it's under warranty?

Otherwise I would just buy a new one. What brand? What make?

JulesMaximus, it's a Mamiya/Sekor 1000TL I found going through my dad's old stuff. It was first released in 1966, and I have no doubt this camera is older than I am, so I don't think a warranty would apply. I'm too broke for a new SLR anyways; I'd be forced to buy a digital consumer POS.

You might be able to get a replacement battery cover/holder - check a camera shop (preferably one that does repairs).

Most if not all camera manufacture have warning suggesting that the battery be remove if the camera not in use as a precaution against corrosion.

Not really that big of a deal if the camera still working. Use an eraser pecil & clean the contact with it the best you can & replace it with a good battery. Or try to refit it with a new contact spring/clip if needed.

By any chance your camera is the Yashica Mat LRT twin-lens reflect?
That is a nice camera which is similar to my Mamiya 330.

That was a VERY NICE camera when it was released......too bad it became damaged. I'd investigate repair costs........it was once a great camera and age doesn't stop it from being a great camera....check out repair costs. If you can get it repaired for the price of a cheapie digital, you'd be better to invest in the Mamiya's repairs.

Take it to a local camera shop. Shouldn't cost too much to get that replaced. My guess is <$50.
