YAShavingT: Should I get an electric?

Ok, for the first time in my life I am having to shave everyday. I need to switch to an electric shaver. I don't like them b/c the don't seem to get as close. If I don't switch, I need to pick up some-sort of product that helps after the shave. I am having to shave everyday for work so for aftershaves, nothing potent can be used.

What makes you think you need an electric razor? Those always caused razor burn for me. I shave nearly every day with a comfort plus II razor 🙂

Electrics just seem to chew on my facial hair and not really get rid of it. What you should consider doing is buying a straight razor 😛

I use a Braun Syncro. I never really had much luck with electrics in the past.

This one is pretty good, except that I have problems with it around my adam's apple. For whatever reason, it manages to chew up the skin a little bit unless I am very careful.

What about the supposed "break in" period for electrics? Apparently the manufacturers say it will take a week or two for it to start doing a good job?

I've never heard of this before. I guess I could still shave during that time if that was the case.

I use a Norelco electric shaver, and it works fine for me. I don't care so much about getting a close shave, because it won't be close in a few hours' time. The NiCad batteries only last for a year or so, oddly. The best time to shave is about five minutes after getting out of the shower, when your facial hair is moisturized but not damp.

Most of the user manuals say two-three weeks. In my experience it has been a week or so.
