I thought they were security guards and not actual police? Especially since the people in the room were saying "call 911". If they were actual police they would have just radioed in.

I was responding to a hypothetical about police. As for whose these guys are, I'm not sure. I have been in dozens of courthouses all over the country and in every case, the security officers were either sheriff's deputies or deputy U.S. marshals, but here they may be non-police security guards. In any case they are uniformed and presumably enjoy at least some law enforcement status.

I think that the situation, could have been handled, considerably better, by the first security guard (who fired the shot).

He should have tried gently explaining the situation to the man (Skidmore), and quietly asked him to leave. If after a reasonable length of time, Skidmore was refusing to listen/leave. Then the security guard(s), could have been more forceful (depending on how far they are allowed to go, given their jobs and responsibilities etc).

Also he should have handled his firearm, MUCH more responsibly. Someone (and it could have been an innocent bystander or security guard), could have easily been killed in that situation.

I think they later changed the "Accidental Discharge" claim, to one of "Intentionally firing the weapon".

Then after he fired he sat there looking at the gun his watch etc. I think he was in shock the he pulled it and fired...and missed everyone.

Watching the incident after the shooting (which may only be visible on the long 47 Min unedited video, I posted about, earlier), three burly/massive security guards come in, who look and act just like bouncers (at a night club).

Maybe there is a problem, with the way security is being run there (culture). Which led to the security guard being too untrained and/or the wrong person for the job. Hence him firing the gun, more like a cowboy from a western movie, rather than handling the situation (and firearm), professionally.

Essentially, if the other person is unarmed (especially without a gun or knife), the security guards gun, should remain holstered. The security there are NOT policemen (As far as I know), and NOT responding to a 911 call, of armed intruders. So should NOT really be using his gun.

On the other hand, the security guard could be saying it was self-defense, as he was being physically attacked. But there were other security guards both present, and coming, which he should have known about. So he should have waited for them to intervene.

In slight defense of the security guard, it is NOT easy, when you are suddenly confronted by a very violent person, who is repeatedly punching (and maybe biting), your face etc.

This reminds me of the Policeman who accidentally shot the resisting suspect dead, thinking he was holding his stun gun, rather than the real gun.
