Audi S4 with the DCT or Manual?

DCT:
1/5 second shifts
Auto for traffic

Manual:
It's a Manual!
More manly, RAWR!

I'm really torn.

Either way, I only need two gears for most driving:-D

Vote and then, if you are so inclined, tell me why.

The manual will get you to 60 in 2nd gear. The DCT won't.

I hated the DCT when I test drove the S4. It doesn't do what you want it to, when you want it to.

In which case? It did everything I told it to when I test drove the DCT.

I found this interesting:
[FONT=verdana, arial, geneva][SIZE=-1]The beefy torque curve and instant throttle response is well matched to either transmission choice. The B8 S4 is Audi's first vehicle to offer a true DSG S-tronic gearbox on a longitudinal vehicle platform (engine oriented North-South). There are 7 well spaced ratios for optimum acceleration, and the 7th gear is taller than the highest ratio found on the manual transmission netting slightly better highway fuel consumption. For those concerned about durability of this complicated gearbox behind a powerful engine, the rated torque capacity of the S-tronic is actually greater than that of the traditional 6-speed manual (369 lb-ft vs 332 lb-ft). It just wanted to be in a higher gear than I wanted it to be in. I wrote a small blurb in this post --> http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=28851617&postcount=1

If you slide the shifter over to the right and leave it there while driving at any speed, the transmission will stay in that gear(from experience in my B6) you can push the engine to redline and past and it will stay in that gear (accidentally found this out when I was not paying attention one day). If you downshift and the computer figures you will be at redline or past, it will not do anything.

I believe you either got a lemon or you did not put it into 'pure manual mode'. Auto mode is basically Economy mode. Sport mode is 'I want to go faster but am too lazy to click some buttons.' Manual is as Manual as a DCT can get without a clutch pedal and some contorted H.

Also, I will confirm that Audis do sometimes have electronics issues from the factor or shortly thereafter(mine did). Then again ever other Audi I've been in or heard anything about has had no electronics problems

Are you going to be driving it frequently/commute to work with it a lot, or is it more of a weekend/sunny day car?

I would hate to drive my 6-speed manual car day in and day out, it would seem grueling to drive 1.5+ hrs a day commuting in traffic. It's fun to cruise around on the weekend, but for every day driving having an auto is a necessity for me.

Not that I have much choice with my company truck, although it does have a 6-speed auto with manual mode, but there's no point in using it.

Lol you guys realize just three days before this he was talking about "flying out" to look at a crashed Maserati?

What's next, a thread trying to choose between different models of private jet?

It's certainly starting to look that way.

You obviously don't know the demographic of posters here if you want fair poll. There are far too many people here that need a stick to play with to feel manly and give them some self-worth.

Or maybe it's just that manual is more fun? Seriously, you only sound like you don't even know how to use a manual, so your opinion is irrelevant.

It's been a long time since I've used one (learned on one and had one for first 2 years driving) but I never found it fun and I have absolutely no desire to ever use one again.

weird. Maybe the clutch you were learning on was broken? A lot of people (myself included) don't really fix our clutches unless it's absolutely necessary. I have been using the same clutch for two years now, and it shakes a little bit, I'm not exactly sure wtf the problem is, maybe I'm not giving it enough gas, but the damn thing slips as often as not.

Oh to have 800 dollars to spend on a new clutch.
