YAS(leeping)P(ill)T: Anyone have firsthand experience with Rozarem?

I've been on Ambien for some time now, and it works quite well when I take it on an empty stomach. I can't stay on it forever and I need to get myself off it. I skipped my dose last night and got about 90 minutes of sleep. I know rebound insomnia is very typical when getting off a sleep aid like Ambien or Lunesta, but Rozarem is said to not produce a dependency.

So my plan is to stop the Ambien cold turkey and take Rozarem for a couple weeks and then get off the meds altogether. I tried Rozarem before I tried Ambien, and it didn't do jack... but I was also taking it within an hour or two of eating, so I'm wondering if that's why it didn't work. If I take Ambien in that same timeframe, it's rather ineffective, too.

Since it's such a new med, I thought I'd get some feedback before calling up the doc.

It's rozerem

edit: and it must be pretty low key b/c I hadn't even heard of it and I'm in pharmacy school - I had to look it up

I guess they just started a $100 million marketing campaign last week - direct-to-consumer marketing FTW(L)

just call the doc

All sleeping aids have a dependency, they just mean no drug dependency (physical) but there will still be a mental dependency as long as you take something to help you sleep.

Today I went into medicinal chemistry and the topic of the day was sedative hypnotics i.e. sleep aids. My professor seemed to rave about rozerem.

Good safety profile, low incidence of side effects. The effective dose is about 8mg, they've given 160mg-180mg to people in trials and nothing bad happened. Not addicting or habit forming. Fast onset and good duration of sleep. Not to be taken with fatty meals. Can be used fro long-term use.

Some stuff you may not care about:
It is a melatonin receptor agonist, unlike others which are GABA receptor agonists, which makes it unique in its method of action. This has shown to better mimic natural sleep and not disturb REM sleep, which is the most restorative part of the sleep cycle. It's an oral med with high first pass metabolism and low bioavailability.

Sounds like a good one to try.

Thanks!

I called the doc earlier and requested a script. The wife and I have a bad habbit of eating late (8PM - 9PM), so hopefully the ineffectiveness of the Rozerem was caused by a full stomach. I later learned that was the case with pretty much all sleep aids, regardless of whether they allow food intake around the time of dosage.

My plan is to get off the Ambien (which I started last night... what a BITCH) and use the Rozerem to fill in where needed, until I'm not on anything.

Well I've taken Rozerem for the last couple nights... it doesn't do JACK (at least not for me).

I have about 6 hours of combined sleep over the past 3 nights.
