No cliffs. Sorry for length. I used good English and paragraphs. :D

1) I do 80% of the programming and database work.
2) I manage IIS, Mail, DNS, etc for 5 windows servers and 1 linux.
3) I manage over 250 domains.

With the exception of a 1 year hiatus (30% raise to leave), I have worked for this company since 1999. Full time since 2001.

The company I work for is super small. I'm not a partner, don't get profit sharing, etc.
I don't have a 401k or company sponsored IRA.
I do get free healthcare (no dental)
I figure I'm underpaid by about 15-20k.

I just finished working my ASS off on a huge project for the past 6 months. It's finally rolling out. My boss and I talked 6 months ago about being rewarded, but never got to specifics, since we didn't know how long the project was going to take.

SO now I'm ready to ask for the moolah. I don't want a lump sum. Just catch me up to where I need to be career-money-wise. Raise.

I'm fully prepared that he's going to say he can't afford it.

But I just spent 6 months working my butt off, stopped working out, gained weight ... GF is tired of me working so hard ...

I'm personally attached to this code ... I've put a ton of sacrifice into this company. While my benefits are low, the perks of flexibility, shorts and sandals, are nice.

What I'm getting at I guess is ... since this guy can't afford what I'm worth ... I'm thinking of starting my own thing ...

Would it be crazy to say if he can't meet my desired salary that I will no longer work Thursdays and Fridays?

Everyone seems to think I'm nuts ... but they can't afford to loose me, and I can't afford to keep working for peanuts.

The problem with working for a smaller company is that they may actually not be able to afford to give you a raise. If you want more money you may have to go elsewhere. take a look at the job market and see if you can get something else.

I updated my resume online last week --- got about 50 calls from headhunters ... I hate talking to them ... I feel like they just suck up time.

There's no doubt my skills are desired --- mostly ASP.NET C#

More info required for decent advice

How much your making?
What area of the country?
Experience and credentials?
Hours worked?

I work my ASS off, and I'm underpaid pretty much applies to everyone:)

That's just it .... I can talk to him when needed. But since I'm the "visionary" .. most of the time I just close my door and fly solo.

When it's major life changing stuff like this I'm a pvssy.

If I can get a day or two off a week ... then I can use that for my job hunting day(s).

I really would rather not relocate at this time ... and that's part of the problem with a new gig.

I agree you need to look for a better job with a larger more established company, unless you just love the place. You'll probably have to give up the shorts and flipflops:)

Not sure about the FLA job market, but here in Dallas,TX your qualifications and experience would be inline with $75-80k maybe even $100k with the right company
