YART: Silly roommate and his gamecube

Pretty much what the title says. He has left his gamecube running for about a month straight....i used to shut it off but he yelled at me for doing so. I told him it'd break if he didnt shut it down. It's been running since at least the middle of february on long carpet. Then today as he's playing I hear a horrible metallic squeal come from the living room. Gamecube broken! Buhahahahah!!!!

Now he's going to BB and claim they sold him a defective unit.....

I guess whats funny is he's a dual major computer science and engineering and electrical engineering major....he should know better 😛

I'd leave my n64 on for ages, course, that doesn't have a motor to die...then again, my computer has been known to be on for several weeks at a time.

What is the point of leaving it on?

I could maybe see a system like an Xbox where you would get messages/updates, and would possibly use it for more than just games, but not a gamecube. Its not like leaving it on is going to make it take any less time to startup or anything.

As for tall carpet, that shouldn't have mattered on a Gamecube. The bottom inch or so doesn't even have any actual hardware in it, its just the openings for the expansion ports. The fans and everything are higher up.

I'm actually surprised that it did die though. A month straight would be what 24x30=720 hours, and I know that the MTBF for a Gamecube should be well beyond that. Since it wouldn't have been under full load that whole time, and it should have more than adequate cooling to handle it anyways, its kinda surprising.

whats the point in having a gamecube? They are teh suck m8. I would have thrown that out the window if i was you man.

hope BB doesnt take his crap .

BB took his crap.....he lied....

What did he say?

As far as I know, there is no set normal use condition for video game consoles, so leaving it on 24/7 would technically fall under normal use, as long as he hadn't modified it or been hitting it or anything like that, he could technically still be within the bounds of the warranty. As far as I know, Nintendo doesn't even specify how long you can leave it on. I know they say not to play continuously, but thats a warning for your health, not the system's.

He told them the drive motor failed, just not under what circumstances, lol, technically it's only 3 months old so it's still warrentied.
