Of course, for the same reason they should be allowed to have a bible study class - as long as it is an objective study.
I'd much prefer a class that studies all the major world religions though, and I think everybody would be better off if they could learn about all relgions or none.

There is no way a Bible studies class would be objective. First of all, that's not what a Bible studies class is. Second of all, the students would all be Bible thumpers.

It might not be objective, but it could be. Also, I'm not talking about 'bible study/sunday school' but "academic study of the bible". I disagree that everybody in the class would be bible thumpers, since it seems most other religions are bigger on being broad minded and having a good education, so I think many people of other religions would take such a class to be better educated on other religions.

I wish I would have had the opportunity to learn about other religions in detail as an elective credit in high-school. I learn enough about 'my religion' at church every week; it'd be nice to hear what other groups of people think as well. It would have sure beat the 'work program', where we did literally nothing during class and turned in paycheck stubs once a month for elective credit.

Students in Utah are allowed to take seminary which is basicly mormon class. Every highschool and most middleschools have a seminary building right next door where the classes are taught. It does not count towards your credits, but it also doesn't count against your attendance. I didn't take seminary and therefore received a free attendance credit, it saved me my senior year.

As was said before, no, for the very same reason that Bible study is not allowed in Public school.

Home schooling and Religous schools is a different matter though, and thats where religious education should stay imo.

Public universities already have such classes, but its hard to take them because in college the load is quite a bit heavier if you actually care about your education plus they cost lots of money to take.

If it's objective, secular and an elective class, sure. If it's not objective, religious or required, no.

If it is taught as a social science class I see no problem with it, or with a bible class, or with a Hindu class, etc. As long as it is taught like a real objective class, just like the classes in College. My HS had a old testiment class that I would've taken, but it was only taught Zero Hour, and there was no way I was going to school at 7am. (BTW: I am Atheist, so that is at least one non-bible thumpper in that class.)

It was some stupid system they had for tracking unexscused absences and tardys. You could have X amount of absences for X amount of credit hours taken, anything more required you to make up class time.

Yes, but only if it's an "academic" course. I feel the same about any religious text, even the text of my own religion.
