So a 77 year-old lady go through a red light and smacks straight into my father earlier tonight. Crap like this makes me really support mandatory retesting of older drivers and yanking licenses of those who can't handle the responsbility. Damnit.

Not when its a busy intersection in the middle of chicago and other cars did stop. And my dad has been crossing streets on 6 continents for more years than either of us just fine.

Either way, I agree with your sentiment. A 77 yo woman turned left in front of me years ago and totaled my truck. She had missed her turn and was running late for her tee time. :roll:

A lot of the time, it IS the pedestrian's fault...right of way or not.

I'm not saying that it is in this case, but fucking people walk out from between cars and cross in the middle of the block all the dammed time, expecting traffic to stop for them.

NO, you're not supposed to run over pedestrians even when they're in the wrong...but as a rule, pedestrians do NOT have the right of way except at designated intersections and marked crosswalks. (in most states.)

I've seen this but I've seen plenty of bad drivers as well. It can go either way. The difference is that pedestrians don't have 3000 pounds of steel and airbags surrounding them.

What's annoying to me is when pedestrians cross even when there's a green turn arrow and they should not be able to cross. Most intersections I go to, though, they are smart about that.

A girl in my middle school a long time ago had this happen to her. One of my friends was good friends with her (I didn't know her myself). Pretty devastating to our school. It was her last day of school in the 7th or 8th grade and she was with friends being happy school was out.

The old lady didn't know it at the time. According to what I heard, she saw it later on the news and turned herself in when she realized it was her.

EDIT:

I should clarify the girl was killed.

The crosswalk it happened at has a fresh set of flowers / bears / etc each year.
