If anyone in the computer field has any advice in particular (IE. Should I expand the skills section?), it's much appreciated. Right now, it's pretty plain I think. :(

EDIT:Slightly Updated Resume

Looks pretty good to me. Initially seems a bit off balance, with so much experience related stuff and then small snippets for education and computer skills. But that might just be my opinion. Not in the computer field either, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

well, your address, phone number, and email address are all wrong. :p

also, reformat your resume -- i used to hire, and i hated people's resumes who used the ms word template.

just use the indent feature and make up your own format. :) be consisitent but original.

in research asst at UCR, expand the last bullet point into 2 instead of one

and keep it one page. also make the objective more "professional"

is that your real name? that is cool if it is!

Condense it to one page. Don't use a preset resume layout because resume scanners have a hard time picking those up. (Meaning type it in Word manually)

Ditto on what the other guys said: get it to one page, and don't use the preset format.

Otherwise it looks good. A couple of tiny, unimportant comments: the use of the work "maintenance", even though we techs all know what it means, makes HR types think of janitors. If I were writing this, I'd take the "member of Felica team" line and add it to the end of the next line thusly "did all this stuff as member of F. team". And, the "assisted . . ." is a kind of weak sentence. Maybe "directed students to enhanced use of facilities" or some other bs.

Sounds good, good luck getting the new job.

atom -

I would get cut the job experience that isn't relevent to the position you are applying for, unless it's experience that shows exceptional responsibility or achievement. A company that is hiring you to be a software engineer doesn't care that you can shuffle paper for a law firm.

Get it on one page. Expand on the Research Assistant and Computer Lab Consultant jobs if possible (unless there is programming experience you can list from your more recent sysadmin job) . Maybe get rid of the Office Assistant job as it doesn't look like it has much relevant.

Later on when you have more real experience to list multiple pages is ok (in fact it's normal, with 10 point type and often less whitespace), but since you are just out of college shorter is better.

hold on, what is 'resume scanner'? is it a program or is it a scanner 'scanner'? I made my resume using table but converted it to pdf format and email them to recruiter, would that create a problem?

Anyway, atom, you shouldnt put anything above your name, then objective should be more professional, do not start the sentence with "I would .. "
Replaced the word responsible with more powerful verb ... oh, and do not use the same verb more than once.

Also, dont forget to craft an awesome cover letter .. good luck!

Why do ppl keep saying to put stuff on one page?!!!??!?! If you have plenty of experience how the hell would you be able to put your credentials on one page. I was told in school by two different teachers that going beyond the one page is fine. Now, if you have one page filled with like 3 lines on the second page then I would try to condense it.

I had some knucklehead tell me that my two page resume should be truncated into one page. How was I going to do that working three jobs with experience I wanted to show?

3 jobs only?

i have about 5 jobs on mine, all on one page.

one page is better unless you are old and have a lot of crap to show off. one page = newbie out of college.

Read the resume -- he has only 6 months of intern (RA?) experience that's directly relevant, the rest is worth mentioning but not really experience for this particular job.

FYI at my last job (lead developer, small software company) I did the initial reading of resumes for filling several development jobs and I definitely agree with cutting it down to one page.

Other comments:

I disagree with glugglug on expanding the RA entry -- your 3 points are about all a 6-month RA/intern position will justify without looking overinflated.

Office Assistant: cut out the first item (Helped to supervise prompt delivery of legal depositions to law firms).

Was your GPA below 3.0 for your BS degree? If either your major or (even better) overall GPA was over 3.5 you should definitely mention it since you don't yet have salaried development experience.

Computer skills: just say Windows not every version (especially not 3.x :) ). Also, do you have any Win32 API experience?

Take off the office assistant job and/or reduce the font sizes to fit everything one one page. Entry level job = 1 page resume.

TY for advice everyone. I uploaded a different resume, content is still the same more or less but format is modified.

To answer some questions:

Was your GPA below 3.0 for your BS degree?

Total GPA was lower than a 3.0 but my major GPA was higher than 3.0. I was advised to leave it off.

Also, do you have any Win32 API experience?

Like most new grads, probably passing knowledge..... like small school projects and such. I didn't really feel comfortable putting it on my resume.

Anyways, gotta work on my cover letter now. :)

Wow - that font size is huge. Maybe w/ just these 3 jobs, you might be better off w/ a skills resume and emphasize your computer abilities / education.
