Is Ryzen going to flop, is IPC going to be 2 years behind Intel and uncompetitive in comparison for mainstream users, is overclocking going to be like a bag of nails?

I thought the idea was to see how many in-flight / active Ryzen speculation threads we can get in this forum.

How can overclocking be like a bag of nails? When I think of a bag of nails, two things spring to mind:

1 - I had to buy that bag that contains many more nails than I needed for that job (and will ever need for related jobs)
2 - Damn, I bought the wrong nails again. Into the garage with you!

Yeah, even if they're 2 years behind Intel in IPC, that only means a 10 - 15% disadvantage at the most, usually less. Intel has been nearly stagnant since Sandy Bridge, which is why Ryzen has a chance in the first place.

The R7 1800X will likely give 90% of the i7 6900K's performance over all, albeit being 50% of the price.

Sounds like a win to me. Kaby Lake will be better if single threaded performance is all one care's about but as apps become more and more multi-threaded, power users not willing to shell out big money for Xeons / 6900K / 6950X and don't need AVX2 or quad channel memory will certainly find interest in something like the 8 core/16 thread Ryzen chips.
