So the guys at work told me I'm allowed to listen to music at my desk if I want, so what did I do? Set up RDC on my home system, brought in earbuds, and listened away. It's truly amazing all this is coming through my regular internet connection.

How many of you guys remote connect to your home systems from work?

All the time, been using VNC for years before also, but RDC is much smoother.

Never used it to stream music though, more for remote system management of my server etc..

I've always wanted to try using RD, but my computer is never always on, or my internet is never always on (don't ask about the internet problem...). My mom uses it for her work; it seems sort of laggy, is that normal?

They said you can listen to music if you want, did they say you could RDC to your home machine? That's usually a HUGE no no as they have no control over what you bring over from your PC.

RDC? You're talking about Remote Desktop Connection that bundled with WinXP professional, right? or you're talking about some other software?

It seems pretty safe to me, as nothing IS being physically brought over. The music is streaming straight through the ethernet and sound card, but nothing is being written to the hard drive. Any files being accessed are only accessed ON my home system.

Bah, locked down. Always wanted to try gaming... it'd be sh!t, but still funny to get a bit of the old BF2 on the go! (give it a try and let me know how bad it was!)

Games/TV tuner won't even launch because I'm in 16-bit color mode.

tried it at college with that crazy game where you could pee on people...anyways that's beside the point, less than 1/10fps at the most isn't playable 😉

Yes, RD is awesome, but I prefer using Orb for streaming music, video, etc to my work PC (and phone, and laptop, etc). 😀
What advantage does that offer for streaming music? This would definitely be better if I had a better upload at home (384k currently).

remote desktop connection is very neat. i'm a college student and i tend to forget to save paperworks to my usb so i use RDC to save my ass.

RDC is a very promising software.

I've seen people fired for remoting to their home machines. I'd make sure you have permission to C.Y.A.

All through the web browser/port 80 so it can be used just about anywhere. Adjusts bitrate based on your connection. No overhead for features you aren't using. Video works, and I can even watch live tv if I care to. I have 384 up at home and it works great. 160kbps wma streams at full bitrate. They even have a file browser now.
