Vegas' take on the game :
http://www.lvrj.com/sports/11017201.html

A fourth-quarter lead slipped from Peyton Manning's hands, and the Indianapolis Colts fell for the first time this season. But all was not lost for those holding betting tickets on the Colts.

At least the defending Super Bowl champions ruined the New England Patriots' perfect record against the spread.

With the NFL's only undefeated teams meeting, big crowds turned out on a busy Sunday for the sports books. The Patriots pulled out a 24-20 victory, but the Colts cashed at the wagering windows as 51/2-point home underdogs.

I knew a few guys that put money on the patriots covering the spread. Especially with a line at 56 everyone was taking the over. I really gotta wonder how much the casino's made this weekend - with a 2-1 margin on tickets sold for the pats i imagine its pretty good.

The spread is the amount the winning team has to win by. So you aren't betting that the PAts will win, you are betting that the pats will win by 5.5. If they win by 4, you lost your bet.

How does one win a football game by 5.5 points?

They obviously would have had to win by 6 to cover the spread.

Pats won ... Colts lost .... people who took the Pats to win by more then the point-spread lost.

The title of the thread should have been, Gamblers betting on the Patriots lose, not the Patriots lose. If anyone in the Patriots organization betted on this game, then Roger Goodell would have a PR nightmare that would make David Stern's problems look juvenile.

Did you read the original post? The post is actually about the betting on the game, not the game itself. Reading skills FTW.

Oh noes! How can the pats sleep at night knowing they let the gamblers down!
