YAPT: Need Power Supply Advice

Hi,

I'm upgrading my system to the following, all items are ordered.

A64 3200+ Winchester w/ Zalman 7700
ASUS A8N-E
2x512MB DDR
ATI X800XL PCIe w/ NV5 ATI Silencer
40GB HDD (system) - existing system
4x250GB in RAID5 - existing system
Promise Supertrak SX6000 - existing system

I plan to run them in my Lian Li PC65 with my antec TruePower 430. This PSU is a holdover and has never hiccupped under the load of the RAId array, etc. What I need to know is do I need a new PSU with dual 12v rails, 6 pin connector, etc. etc. Also, if I do upgrade which features do I need to be "Future Proof". I don't know what the point of some of these options are.

I've heard pros and cons for every PSU out there. I've been looking at the ones from $75-$115.

-Seasonic is quiet and reliable but isn't modular
-Fortron is reliable but isn't as quiet or modular
-Antec Neopower is a little expensive
-OCZ is modular and quietER but just a rebadged....

So anyway....Thanks. 😉

I myself like the Antec Neopower. Well worth the money though I hear OCZ's power supplies are pretty good, I haven't used one myself so I generally don't recommend them.

your current powersupply has 26amp on the 12v rail... personally i would expect your true430 to be able to handle the new system.

Yeah a Trupower 430w should be great. OCZ's are good too.

Please don't use the Yet Another Abbreviation like all of those morons in the ATOT use, lol. I have enough ATOT today.

Cool, consensus says I'm good. I just wasn't sure aobut the dual rails, 6pin connector, etc. Thanks for all of the feedback.

Dual rails is not a necessary feature, it's just a different way of supplying power. Two smaller sources vs one big source.

The special connectors are nice to have, but adapters work just as well.

I'd say keep your current power supply. If you ever decide to add a second video card though, then I'd go with something else.
