Ok, I'm color deficient, so most colors look the same to me. I got a prom date, and I'm really lookin forward to it. She got her dress this weekend. She said, "It's gold." Now, I went to afterhours.com (where I will get my tux...there's one in the mall), and there are a bunch of shades of gold. Which shade goes with any shade of gold? Any help is appreciated.

EDIT: I KNOW that the tux and stuff is black, the vest and tie change...I'm not THAT stupid...

A tux is only a tux when it is black. Colored ones are like costume jewelery.

You need to bring your date with you to the tux place, or you need to bring in a swatch of the fabric to the tux place. That's the only way to properly match it.

And you're only talking about matching the vest and tie, correct?

right. If you want to be a little fruity, you can get one with a gold vest and/or bow tie. But, you'll feel like a waiter all night. Go with black (and make sure you get an actual bow TIE. Way classier, and worth the 30minutes youll spend trying to tie it the first time, with the crappy instructions you find online.

Get black tux, black vest, black slacks, black shoes, black socks, white shirt.

Bring her shopping with you for your bow tie and cufflinks which should match her dress. In my experience, girls are 1000000000x better at color matching. Your belt buckle should match her dress while the belt material should be black. (IMHO)

A gold vest/tie? How could it possibly look good with a black tux?

Instead of giving him a gold vest/tie, they may give him a color that compliments the gold and his date.

Yes, I know that the vest and tie change colors. I was wondering what a good gold color would be for an all purpose matching...

It's a pain in the ass. Every time I debate whether or not to just chose something neutral, or try and match.
