Check your lens. Your lens seems to be suffering Canon's typical off-focus problem.

Agreed. Stop down your lens while shooting because

a. Your pictures seem to have too shallow of a DOF

and

b. Camera lenses are the sharpest in the middle of their f-stop range

The second photo wasn't shot with a Canon lens it is shot using a TLS800 adapter for a Swarovski spotting scope. I can't adjust f-stop with it. It makes the scope the equivalent of a 800mm F11 lens.

Nope. That doesn't happen. There's a big difference between "20d" and "digital rebel".
