That's one of the reasons it's so funny. They have people raping and killing each other left and right, and one little girl says hell and all "hell" breaks loose

I should not have to search for variations of root words before I post either. Nowhere in either title does it say suspension. Still plead the ambiguous title defense

Actually...it does have "suspension" in the title.

At least the link first provided. ;)

Wow, none of you read even the first LINE in the article did you?
Unfuckingbelievable.

First off, she was from pittsburgh. The rueters office is just located in Philly.
Second, if you read the context of the issue, it opens whole cases of new cans of worms.

"I said, 'You're going to go to hell for swearing to God,'" Brandy was quoted as saying in an article that appeared on the Web site of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review
It wasn't used in a derogatory manner at all. The girl was completely sincere in her usage of the word in its intended contextual manner.

Neah I just dislike Philadelphia, changed it for you.

Shouldn't the kid that sword to God be expelled since God and school = a no no?

Eh? No. A kid can say "God" and pray to their god all they want at school. It's called freedom of speech.

Since when? I thought they took out prayer long time ago. The 9th Court even ruled the Pledge of Allegiance was unconstitutional because it had a reference to God. Sorry to tell you, but we are becoming the United Atheist States of America. Unless you want to worship a non-Christian religion that is, in which case we will do everything we can to accomodate you.

Umm.. There is no school sanctioned prayer, which is how it should be. No one stops kids from praying. I don't understand how you conservatives can be so stupid that you can't discern the difference between school prayer and student prayer.

what about instances of Jehova's witnesses kids being in class and the class not able to celebrate any holiday?

what about the kid in Canada that wanted to carry the sword because of his religious beliefs?

plus the atheist father of that one girl which started the whole unconstitutionality of the Pledge brouhaha

I don't know what Jehovah Witness kids you are talking about... I don't see how religion makes it okay for a kid to take a freaking sword to school. And the Pledge having "God" IS unconstitutional.

Muslim boy in Canada that because of his "faith" was obligated to carry a 6" thick dagger. Say your own version of the Pledge and I will say mine, just don't expect me to have my version dictated by a court ruling

You're being dumb. A kid can't carry a dagger around because it's a weapon. Duh.

No one is saying you can't say the pledge your way and I say it mine. A court ruling has NOTHING to do with how an INDIVIDUAL says the pledge. It deals with the institution supporting the use of the "under god" words in the pledge. That is clearly unconstitutional. Why is this so hard to grasp?

(Obviously his school wasn't strict about learning how to speak or type English.) :)

*My* school is strict. Do you know any other public schools where students' cars have been searched *for tobacco products* as well as for drugs and alcohol? Cigarette butts in an ashtray are grounds for suspension.

But, I think suspending a student for saying "hell," especially in that context, is ludicrous.

I remember on Halloween we were all supposed to make as many words as we could using the letters in Halloween. I ended up writing Hell as one of them but I didn't get in trouble. My teacher just wrote "Inappropriate word" on my paper but still gave me full credit.

My weightlifting teacher and school cop used to bum smokes off me.

Whatever. This doesn't surprise me. I got suspended from middle school for a day because I said "This sucks".

Here in Texas, we now have a law that says all public schools set a time to say the Plege to both the US and Texas, then we have 1 minute of silence. You do not have to say the pledges, but you must stand and be respectful while everyone else says it.
Personally I think it is a waste of time, but that is just my opinion. I would be apt to go for something like once a week, mondays maybe? But everyday it just gets to be redundant and nobody really cares anymore.
