YAPSPT (Yet Another PSP Thread)

I'm slowly wondering about the longevity of these. With PS3 and XBOX 360 just around the corner, will this portable get the short end of the stick? I've wanted a MP3 player for awhile now, so it would fit that need, but I want to know I didn't just dish out $250 for something that won't have some kind of support. Anyone want to give me some thoughts on this?

Have they even released any games since it came out? Everything I see at amazon that wasn't available at launch isn't released yet.

Just for the fact that there's a SNES and GBA emulator out for it I'd say it's worth it.

<----- very much regretting the DS after hearing of emulators and more on PSP.

There are more games for PSP than any system other than modded Xbox. No other system even comes close. Just some of the games you can play: NES, SNES, Turbographx 16 and CD, Gameboy, Gameboy color, Neo Geo pocket, Neo Geo CD, MAME, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Wonderswan. You're looking at thousands of games. Just make sure your new PSP has 1.50 version firmware so you can run homebrew stuff. New systems are now shipping with 1.51 and 1.52 firmware which can't currently run homebrew.

I'm sure there's plenty of games I haven't played for those systems, but it'd be nice to have at least 18 months worth of new games.

The PSP doesn't directly compete with the next generation systems coming out. Future support for the PSP will be based on how many units Sony can sell.

At circuit city we sell probably 5 times as many GBA's as PSP's.

And I don't think we've sold a single DS in the last couple weeks.
