My grandmothers toilet will not refill anymore.

I have checked, and verified, that water is indeed running to the toilet via the main water supply.

The flapper is working fine. The chain connecting the Flush Handle to the Flapper is fine.

There is the sound of water moving into the refill valve, but no water moving out of the refill tube.

What are some things I can try to repair the problem ? (besides calling a plumber)

Go to lowes and get a whole new tank assembly. Get one of those without the big old ball float, they should run less than $20.

Edit: Home depot link.

Edit2: the link doesn't work so go to the toilet repair and look there.

Sounds like you're not afraid to get your hands wet....you should be able to get a replacement kit for whatever parts you suspect are not working. Major home improvement stores should all carry at least 2 different kits (look for the green box) that are quite inexpensive, (mostly) universal, and contain instructions that are straight-forward and comprehensive. You shouldn't need a plumber for this.

too late...just got off the phone with my Grandma. Her regular "handy man" cam by and replaced the refill valve.

He only charged her for parts (about 20 bux).
