YAPGCT (Yet another Platinumgold Car Thread) Pontiac G6 Coupe.

Looks like a slightly better-looking Toyota Solara with a crappier interior and poor resale value.

i can't speak to the resale value, altho to be honest i rarely consider resale value when making a purchase. i plan to drive this thing till it's over 100k miles at which point resale value for most cars is a moot point.

interior was fine. i test drove a 4 door version today. i don't see what your basis for saying it is crappy. the fit and finish was nice. the materials felt ok.

Dear god the interior is hideous (maybe not so much design wise, but quality wise). Too bad Lutz couldn't jump in to save it in time. Even Lutz has said that the G6 interior was still behind the competition. That tinny-feeling hard plastic crap has got to go:

Jump in a Solara Coupe, then jump in a G6 Coupe and tell me if you can tell the difference

hmmm, i've had my Olds Intrigue 6 yrs now, 135k miles. it hasn't fallen apart on me yet.

I've owned my G6 GT for a month now and I'm really happy with it.

3 things I would change:
Transmission could be a bit more tuned.
Gas mileage... I'm getting about 22mpg though the gauge claims I'm avg 25mpg.
Steering is precise and smooth but feels a bit floaty. I think this is mostly a change from my last car that had very tight steering.

Don't mind the GM bashers. I had a 2002 Grand Am that I just sold today and I never had any trouble with it. It's just shy of 50,000 miles and runs excellent. The buyers were very impressed with it's condition and performance.

The standard domestic bashing notwithstanding, the G6 is a nice looking car. I've always like Pontiac interiors, and the quality in my Grand Prix is fine.

Not so much a dash stroker, but if I'm gonna be spending 90% of the time with my car inside, I don't wanna look at sh!t.

But you just said "maybe not so much design wise, but quality wise". Which is it?

And don't mind the gm bashers Platinum.

It all goes hand in hand. What good is a good-looking interior design (C6/C5 Vette) if it's pretty damn cheesy in the end? This is the thing that Lutz has been harping about for the past few years...specifically with the C6. He tried to fight the bean counters and get them to put a great looking and feeling dash in the car and actually HAD IT until they overrode him and put in the cheaper stuff.

In the Corvette's case, it's easy to overlook b/c nothing comes close to touching it performance wise.

With the G6, there's plenty of other contenders out there that do thing so much better on ALL fronts.

I never do. i haven't ever purchased a Japanese brand car. Ever. not gonna start now.

yah. I havent driven the G6 but I did rent a Grand Prix for a week. That thing is damn fast too. The only complaint I had was about the seats as they gave me a backache since I drove the car for 6 hours straight.
