Testing obesity, cholesterol, blood pressure, and glucose shows which men at highest risk for heart disease.

So....if I have a combination of high BP, a bad cholesterol ratio and I'm fat......I might be at increased risk for a heart attack?!!?!?

WHY DOES NO ONE TELL ME THESE THINGS!?!!? :|

Well, it's like road construction. They're allotted a certain amount of money each year from the government, and if they don't spend it, they don't get the same amount next year.

The five measurements are used to define metabolic syndrome, or "syndrome x."
Are you making light of the discovery of 'syndrome x?
This sounds like one of the breakthrough discoveries in modern medicine!

*snort* "Syndrome X".....what a crock of shite. Giving it a name like that just gives Americans one more excuse to be worthless lardasses.

"I'd be a lot thinner and healthier if it weren't for this darn Syndrome X I have."

Without reading the whole study it's hard to argue whether they found something new or not because news reports tend to leave out a lot of details.

*Cue dramatic music* 20 years later, syndrome x has spread throughout the world's gene pool. Children born with syndrome x possess incredible, inhuman powers. They are... The X-Me--- err... X-Guys! Yeah. That's it.

I sincerely hope this study cost tax-payers like $50 million. It was worth every penny.

Now if we can just answer the question of whether smoking three packs of cigarettes per day is good for you or not? That's gotta be worth $100 million.

I'm also hoping to find a definitive study that shows whether leaping from a tall building without a parachute and crashing to the pavement below at 100MPH is actually harmful or not.

Reminds me of the newscast I saw today on the noon news.. stated something like "a study on 70 year old overweight women has found that they are at higher risk of developing alzheimers and memory loss 10 to 18 years later"..... personally i always thought memory loss was an age related issue anyways. connected to alzheimers or not.
