Unfortunately, I don't have a camera, otherwise I'd get a picture of the following, but a text description will have to do.

Anyhow, I ordered an SD card from Newegg last Wednesday, and it finally arrived today via their standard UPS option. So imagine my surprise when I return home and on my porch is not a UPS box, but a slightly dented FedEx box. My first reaction of course was confusion, since I hadn't ordered anything via FedEx as of late, but looking at it closer, sure enough there are UPS shipping/tracking stickers on the box, and Newegg is the from address.

At this point, I can only assume this is some sick joke by Newegg to get me killed, no doubt the UPS man left the dents in the box as a warning to what he's going to do to me next. Thanks a lot Newegg, I can't very well buy from you again if I'm dead.:p

My opinion has little to do with this thread but I'd just like to state that FedEx is worth it despite the higher cost. Especially when dealing with Newegg.

Since FedEex boxes are FedEx property, you can call FedEx and tell them that UPS steals their boxes :)

I think that what happened with the OP is that Newegg had a lot of leftover FedEx boxes from their time of using FedEx as a shipper, so they are using them up now. Strictly speaking, that is illegal.

They did the same with me when I bought something a couple of weeks ago. It was completely undamaged which shocked me. This is very irresponsible on Newegg's part.

Well really, UPS should take it as a good sign. A box paid for by FedEx is being shipped by UPS. Net result: win-win for UPS. They invested no money in shipping materials AND they received money for shipping the package. If anyone, FedEx should be the ones that are pissed.

I still don't understand why Newegg switched from Fedex to UPS. Now I have to pay an arm and a leg to get my stuff shipped with fedex. :|

it's not quite an arm and leg

i'd say double the shipping price is an arm and a leg. they wanted over $8 to ship a $12 card reader. screw that. I'll buy elsewhere.

When I ordered before Fedex would get it here in 2 days, always. Now UPS sits on it for a day, no 2 day, it is always 3 day. Plus the Fedex guy would run it up the driveway faster.

My last Egg order was also in a Fex-Ex box, shipped UPS. It arrived is good condition. I thought it funny at the time. Just thought they were using whatever box they had available at the time. Having switched from Fed-Ex to UPS, I would expect them to have a lot of Fex-Ex supplies laying around, and they wanted to use it up.

Hello AnandTech Members,

After finding this informative thread we did some digging around to find some answer to provide all of you.

We have confirmed that we do indeed have extra FedEx boxes in our warehouses. We will be using this FedEx boxes until we run out. So do not be surprised if you receive a UPS shipment in a FedEx box. Furthermore, this should not affect any aspect of shipment.

As always, if you have any further questions, concerns or have an issue you need assistance with please feel free to PM me and I will be glad to assist you.

I hope Newegg will also be sponsoring Virge in the witness protection program. Please take care of him since you put his life at risk.

Anyhow, thanks for the answer NS. That's what I had figured, and indeed it hasn't been a problem, but thanks for the official response.:)
